Job summary

Qualcomm is seeking a skilled engineer in Cork, Ireland to design and develop compiler toolchains tailored for visual processing units (VPUs) and GPUs. Job description

General Summary

Role & Responsibilities

  • Toolchain Development: Design, develop, and maintain compiler toolchains (e.g., using LLVM or GCC) tailored to visual processing units (VPUs), GPUs, or digital signal processors.
  • Optimization Passes: Create advanced code generation and optimization algorithms for parallel compute, including vectorization, graph optimization, and data layout transformations.
  • Hardware Co-Design: Collaborate with hardware architecture teams to enable new Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) features and evaluate silicon designs pre‑silicon.
  • Workload Tuning: Analyze and resolve performance bottlenecks for computer vision, image processing, and deep learning neural networks.
  • Testing & Validation: Write comprehensive test suites, develop automated testing flows, and ensure zero regressions across different operating systems and hardware configurations.
Qualifications & Skills

Education: B.S. or M.S. (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.

  • Strong, hands‑on programming in C/C++.
  • Solid understanding of compiler internals (lexer, parser, middle‑end optimizations, backends).
  • Understanding of computer architecture, memory hierarchy (cache management, registers), and parallel computing (GPGPU APIs, CUDA etc.).

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field and 2+ years of ASIC design, verification, validation, integration, or related work experience.
  • Master's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field and 1+ year of ASIC design, verification, validation, integration, or related work experience.
  • PhD in Science, Engineering, or related field.
