Job description

I’m working on a senior opportunity within the data centre sector, looking for an experienced Mechanical/HVAC Commissioning Manager to join a major organisation delivering mission-critical projects across Europe and internationally.

This is a client-side/PMC role, so I’m looking for someone who can operate above the day-to-day contractor delivery piece.

You’ll be working closely with General Contractors, Mechanical Contractors, vendors, commissioning agents, design teams and client stakeholders, making sure projects are properly planned, technically aligned and driven through mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning and final handover. The overall objective is to reduce delivery risk and ensure the facility is genuinely operationally ready.

This is a senior technical leadership position with a strong focus on mechanical and HVAC commissioning across mission-critical environments.

You’ll be expected to provide direction around:

• Mechanical completion and pre-commissioning strategy
• HVAC and mechanical systems commissioning
• Commissioning planning, sequencing and handover
• System completion boundaries and commissioning packages
• Start-up strategy and equipment readiness
• TAB for air and water systems
• Chillers, cooling towers and heat pumps
• Air-cooled and liquid-cooled infrastructure
• Pumping systems and variable speed drives
• Load testing and system integration
• QA/QC, walkdowns and punch-list closure
• Vendor and contractor management

The specification is particularly strong around candidates having detailed knowledge of heavy commercial/industrial mechanical and piping systems, including HVAC, cooling systems, fuel systems, piping, fire protection and associated controls.

This isn’t just about witnessing tests.

You’ll be expected to understand the full commissioning lifecycle, challenge programmes where necessary, establish logical start-up sequences, identify risk early and make sure the GC, MC and wider project team are delivering against an agreed commissioning strategy.

There is also a significant people and stakeholder management element. You’ll be working across multiple disciplines and projects, supporting commissioning teams, influencing contractors and holding stakeholders accountable for delivery. Previous experience managing high-performing teams is important.

I’m particularly interested in speaking with people who have come from a GC, MC, EPC, CxA, specialist commissioning or client-side environment and who have a strong track record within data centres or other technically advanced mission-critical facilities.

Data centre experience is highly desirable, although candidates with a strong commissioning background across sectors such as pharmaceutical, power, oil & gas or similarly complex industrial environments could also be relevant where there is clear transferability into mission-critical infrastructure.

The role is based in Dublin and candidates need to already be located in Dublin or be able to base themselves there.

There will also be extensive international travel, so flexibility to spend significant time on projects across Europe and potentially further afield is essential.
