Job description

We are now inviting applications for the position of Clinical Nurse Manager in Kilkenny Care Centre.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical Practice: Ensure the delivery of the highest standards of nursing and social care that meet the individual needs of each resident. Practices include adherence to care centre policies and best clinical standards, collaboration with staff, early identification of concerns, and development of action plans with the Director of Nursing, reviewing residents with pressure sores, sustained falls, or clinical decline, troubleshooting ongoing clinical and non-clinical issues, and conducting comprehensive resident assessments with ongoing monitoring and modifications.
  • Medication Management: Supervise medication administration and staff compliance, order monthly stock, compile inventory, review medication audits with the Director of Nursing, and liaise with GPs and pharmacy regarding reviews and audits.
  • Staff Supervision & Training: Lead by example with Staff Nurses and Care Assistants; participate in Training & Development/Performance Appraisal in collaboration with the Director of Nursing; support Care Assistants to maintain a professional, caring approach and ensure high standards of direct care; implement Named Nurse and Named Care Assistant practices and monitor effectiveness; assess training needs and deliver in-house training (e.g., infection control, palliative care, understanding challenging behaviour).
  • Auditing: Review recent admissions and ensure documentation of assessments, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care; monitor cleanliness, hygiene, and relationships among staff; ensure environmental and hand hygiene audits are carried out with actionable plans; conduct medication, health & safety audits, risk assessments, and risk management plans with the Director of Nursing; address documentation issues in Epicare with staff.
  • Residents/Relatives – Person Centred: Interact with and support residents and families daily; act as a key contact for relatives and visitors and promote the Care Centre; handle complaints promptly at the point of contact.
  • Management: Assist with Director of Nursing responsibilities when covering for annual leave; manage rostering, attend handovers, review resident progress; support and develop clinical practice through hands-on leadership with staff; implement the Company Health and Safety Policy to safeguard staff, residents and others.
Qualifications, Skills and Attributes
  • BSc in General Nursing or equivalent.
  • Previous managerial training or experience is an advantage.
  • Registered on the NMBI live register.
  • Excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills.
  • Sound decision-making ability.
  • Ability to motivate self and others and work on own initiative.
  • Ability to work well in and promote a team environment.
  • Results driven.
