Role Description The Clinical Nurse Manager is a senior member of the nursing team, supporting the Person in Charge in the day-to-day operation of the centre and taking charge in their absence. The postholder works clinically alongside the team, leading by example and setting the standard of care on the floor.

The role combines direct clinical leadership with practical management of people, resources and quality, and is the grade at which the culture of a shift is most directly set.

Requirements

• Ensure high standards of care are delivered and maintained, working clinically alongside staff and leading by example across all shifts, including weekends and nights as rostered.
• Serve as a clinical resource to nursing and care staff in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating resident care.
• Demonstrate and promote a person-centred and enabling style of clinical practice, always acting as an advocate for the resident.
• Supervise and evaluate the quality of care delivered, ensuring care plans are reviewed and updated regularly and reflect what matters to each resident.
• Ensure high standards of infection prevention and control are practised and maintained.
• Be responsible for the care, control, storage and safe administration of medicines in line with Genesis policy and NMBI guidance.
• Act as liaison in the co-ordination of resident care, maintaining good communication with general practitioners and other disciplines and ensuring records are updated.
• Ensure clinical skills and knowledge remain current, including venepuncture and cannulation where these form part of the role.
• Allocate staff to residents appropriately, taking account of knowledge, expertise, health and safety and continuity of care.
• Experience in quality and safety management, including audits, incident reporting, and compliance with HIQA or equivalent regulatory standards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for working with residents, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the capacity to prioritize workloads and manage clinical emergencies effectively.
• Registered Nurse with active NMBI registration (or eligibility), and relevant post-registration experience in older person or residential care.
• Desirable: Management or leadership qualification (e.g., postgraduate certificate/diploma), and experience in staff development and training.
• Commitment to upholding residents’ rights and promoting a culture aligned with the values of compassion, care and commitment.
