Remuneration

The salary scale for the post is (01/08/2025). New appointees to any grade start at the minimum point of the scale. Incremental credit will be applied for recognised relevant service in Ireland and abroad. Incremental credit is normally granted on appointment, in respect of previous experience in the Civil Service, Local Authorities, Health Service and other Public Service Bodies and Statutory Agencies.

Title: Assistant Director of Nursing (Mental Health)

The HSE provide a wide range of community and hospital based mental health services in Ireland and these services have been evolving as we continue to move from the hospital model to providing more care in communities and in service users' own homes. It is estimated that up to one in five of us will experience some mental health problems in our lifetime and in order to meet these needs, Mental Health Services are expanding and evolving.

Eligibility Criteria

Qualifications and/or experience

Minimum of 1 year’s post registration full‑time experience in the division of the register in which the application is being made (or equivalent). Minimum of 1 year’s experience in the specialist area of Suicide Crisis Assessment Care. Successful completion of a post‑registration programme of study achieving a Level 9 or higher award relevant to the specialist area of care. Continuing professional development (CPD) in the specialist area.

Registered nurse or midwife on the active Register of Nurses and Midwives held by An Bord Altranais and Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann, or eligible to be so registered. Registered in the Psychiatric division of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland or the relevant division. Ability to practice safely and effectively within scope of practice.

Additional requirement: EEA, Swiss, or British citizenship, or non‑EEA citizen with permission to reside and work in Ireland.

Skills, competencies and/or knowledge

• Professional knowledge and experience in nursing practice, legislation, and quality standards.
• In‑depth knowledge of Suicide Crisis Assessment, pathophysiology, diagnostic interventions, care planning, and self‑management strategies.
• Evidence of teaching, audit, research, and computer skills (Word, Excel, E‑mail, PowerPoint).
• Clear communication, emotional intelligence, teamwork, leadership, and an innovative approach to service development.
