Job summary

Moonshot is seeking a Head of AI Safety to lead the delivery, development and growth of our AI Safety portfolio. This senior role blends violence prevention, behavioural risk, and online harms with evaluating and improving AI system safety.

The position requires hands‑on red teaming, collaboration with policy, product, and engineering teams, and strong client relationships. You will manage a team, shape methodological frameworks, and drive ethical compliance while engaging with regulators,

Qualifications

• Experience in trust & safety, online harms, or related fields and the ability to adapt to AI systems.
• Strong written communication for government, foundation, or enterprise audiences.
• Experience designing evaluation frameworks or interventions for harm categories.
• Demonstrated project and team management experience.
• Willingness to travel and work outside regular hours.
• Eligible to work in the UK and able to obtain security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead and quality‑assure Moonshot's applied AI safety work across harm categories using red teaming and adversarial evaluation.
• Advise frontier AI companies on model safety, policies, and intervention systems.
• Translate insights from domain experts into clear, actionable guidance for teams.
• Set the methodological approach for the portfolio with structured evaluation frameworks.
• Lead and participate in red teaming and adversarial evaluation with test scenarios and scoring.
• Identify patterns and safety failures and develop practical recommendations.
• Maintain rigorous documentation for technical, government, and foundation audiences.
• Ensure work complies with ethical, contractual, data protection, and ethics obligations.
• Identify and escalate operational, reputational, delivery and partnership risks.
• Build and sustain relationships with governments, regulators, academics, researchers and civil society.
