Job summary

Depaul is seeking a Case Worker for a maternity cover role in Cork. The position is full time (35 hours across 7 days) on a fixed-term contract ending December 2026 with a likelihood of extension.

The role involves holistic care, risk assessment, and collaboration with external agencies to support residents experiencing homelessness. Applicants should have 2 years of social care experience, a Case Management qualification, and a strong commitment to Depaul's values.

Qualifications

  • 2 year’s paid experience working in a social care field, desirably in a residential setting (essential).
  • Social Studies / Case Management accreditation required.
  • Experience with intimate partner violence contexts.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment processes and systems.
  • Understanding of harm reduction and low threshold working.
  • Experience with needs assessment, keyworking and support planning for people with complex needs.
  • Familiar with statutory and voluntary sector resources for homeless people.
  • Commitment to Health and Safety in residential settings.
  • Good IT skills and professional email use.
  • Respect for Depaul values and ethos.

Responsibilities

  • Meet residents' practical needs (food, laundry, bedding) in a safe, high-standard service.
  • Assess needs and refer residents to appropriate agencies.
  • Provide key working, document progress, and advocate for residents.
  • Liaise with external agencies, health boards and county councils.
  • Adhere to quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • Assist medical staff with residents’ health care needs.
  • Participate in handovers, supervise volunteers, support team decisions.
  • Engage in supervision and annual appraisals; pursue development.
  • Follow Depaul policies on Health and Safety, Confidentiality, and Conduct.

Case Worker - Maternity Cover, Deerpark Cork

Full time - 35 hours per week, working across 7 days

Fixed Term Maternity Cover Contract (ending Dec 2026 with liklihood of extension)

Salary - €39,872.09 per annum

Location - Cork, Ireland

1. Role:

To be a member of a multi-disciplined team using holistic approaches. Working within the principal of harm minimisation where residents receive a high degree of care, support and dignity. Depaul has a commitment to service user participation and to empowering residents to manage their own lives.

2. Responsibilities:
  • To ensure the practical needs of our services users are met i.e. providing food, laundry clean bedding etc. while ensuring a safe and secure environment in a high standard service.
  • To assess the needs of service users and to refer them to appropriate agencies.
  • To provide key working to a number of residents, recording this work, advocating for them and updating line manager and the team on progress.
  • To liaise with external agencies, health boards and county councils.
  • To ensure all quality assurance policies and procedures are adhered too.
  • To assist the medical and nursing staff with the health care of Service users
  • To be a team player taking a role in handovers, supervising Volunteers and supporting your team members in ensuring all decision making is consistent
  • To participate in supervision with your line manager and annual appraisals and identifying your own professional development within your role.
  • To ensure all Depaul Policies and Procedures are adhered too particularly Health and Safety, code of Conduct and Confidentiality.
  • To at all times undertake your role in a professional manner maintaining a high quality standard of work in line with Depaul Values and ethos.

3. Person Requirements:
  • 2 year’s paid experience working in a social care field, desirably in a residential setting (essential)
  • Social Studies /Case Management Accredited Qualification
  • Experience and understanding of the complexities involved in working with service users experiencing intimate partner violence.
  • Good working knowledge of risk assessment processes and systems (i.e. S/U Risk assessment, Lone Working, Activity Risk Assessments)
  • Process an understanding of harm reduction and low threshold working
  • Process an understanding of why people become homeless and the issues they present with, understanding what supports can be offered in homeless services to service users with complex support needs
  • Have experience working with needs assessment, keyworking and support planning for people with complex needs.
  • Have a knowledge of the statutory and voluntary sector resources available to homeless people
  • Understand the importance for Health and Safety in a residential setting.
  • Be a good communicator and computer literate
  • Knowledge and understanding of Depaul vision mission and values.
  • Proficient use of IT required in role, including email in a professional capacity.
  • An understanding of, and respect for the values and beliefs of Depaul.
