Job summary

Roughan & O'Donovan (ROD) is seeking an experienced bridge engineering technician to contribute to bridge and multidisciplinary projects across Ireland and the UK. You will work with teams, produce detailed drawings, and mentor junior staff.

Essentially, you will be involved in modelling and drafting for bridges, retaining walls, and culverts, with a focus on timely delivery and high quality outputs. The role offers a collaborative, learning-focused environment within a leading civil engineering

Qualifications

  • Higher Certificate in civil/structural engineering (Level 6) or equivalent.
  • Minimum seven years' experience modelling and drafting bridge/civil structures.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, CADS-RC, and structural steel detailing.
  • Fluent English (spoken and written).
  • Able to work in a busy environment and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce high quality drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Produce engineering models, drawings and details for bridges, walls, culverts and other civil structures.
  • Prepare conceptual and detailed design drawings.
  • Fulfil project technician duties on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Review steel fabrication and shop drawings.
  • Deliver high-quality drawings in a timely manner.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior colleagues.

About the role As an experienced bridge engineering technician, you will play an integral role in the delivery of our bridge and multidisciplinary projects. You will be supported throughout by our teams in Ireland and the UK.

Main duties and responsibilities
  • Production of engineering models, drawings and details for various types of bridges, retaining walls, culverts and other civil structures
  • Preparation of conceptual design and detailed design drawings
  • Performance of the role of project technician on multidisciplinary projects
  • Review of steel fabrication drawings and shop drawings
  • Delivery of high-quality engineering drawings in a timely manner
  • Guidance and mentorship of junior colleagues

Essential
  • A minimum of a higher certificate in civil or structural engineering (Level 6 in the National Framework of Qualifications) or equivalent
  • A minimum of seven years of relevant experience of modelling and drafting of bridge and civil structures
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, CADS-RC, and structural steelwork detailing
  • Fluent or highly proficient in spoken and written English
  • Flexible, motivated and focused
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce high quality drawings
  • Motivated individual with a strong work ethic
  • Comfortable working in a busy work environment with tight deadlines
Desirable
  • Experience in 3D modelling using AutoCAD or other suitable software
  • Proficiency in a range of software packages, such as Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks
