Job summary

The Organisation

Kilbarrack Coast Community Programme (KCCP) provides a quality, user-led service, working with people involved with drugs, their families and in community development initiatives.

Based at a multi-purpose, community centre in Kilbarrack, Dublin 5, KCCP provides a range of professional programmes and services:

  • Reach Out Project (Community Employment) for 18-25 year olds.
  • Youth Matters for 9-21 year olds.
  • Adult drug and drug rehabilitation.
  • Counselling and referral service.
  • Family Support Group.
Mission

To work to the highest professional standards with those people who have become involved with drugs and their families, to preventively work with young people to stop them becoming involved in drug misuse and to develop and participate in community development initiatives.

The Role

KCCP is seeking a board member with considerable Finance and Governance expertise.

Role Requirements and Key Responsibilities Include
  • Advise and guide the board on all financial matters.
  • Evaluate and monitor the adequacy of Finance and Governance policies and procedures and ensure the organisation is compliant with best practice principles.
Skills and Experience Required
  • Financial Expertise: either a qualified accountant or someone with an extensive professional background in finance.
  • Governance and Compliance Leadership: Familiarity of SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice) standards, Charities Regulator requirements and best practice in governance would be beneficial.
  • Governance Knowledge: strengthen governance policies (e.g. conflicts of interest, and delegated authority) and ensure adherence.
  • Financial management and oversight: ability to interpret financial reports, budgets, and forecasts. Prepare summary quarterly management accounts for the board, with support from the executive.
  • Audit and risk management: understanding of internal controls, risk frameworks, and compliance.
  • Strategic planning: experience aligning financial decisions with long-term organisational goals.
  • Previous board experience in Ireland would be desirable, either as a board member or reporting to/advising a board.

Charities Regulator’s General Duties of a Charity Board Member
  • Comply with the charity’s governing document.
  • Ensure the charity is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit.
  • Act in the best interest of the charity.
  • Act with reasonable care and skill.
  • Manage the assets of your charity.
Board Meetings

There is a minimum of six board meetings a year. Meetings run approximately 1.5 hours in duration and are held on Monday afternoons, in-person in Kilbarrack, Dublin 5 (although remote attendance is possible).

Committees

There are currently two committees: Quality & Safety Committee and Child Protection Committee. More committees may be established.
