Job summary

recruitNet is sourcing a Basic Grade Medical Scientist – Biochemistry (FTC) for a leading hospital in Dublin. The role focuses on a broad range of biochemical diagnostics, ensuring accuracy and patient‑centred care in a fast-paced environment within the Biochemistry department.

The ideal candidate will have AM LS membership or CORU registration, at least one year of multi‑discipline lab training, and experience in biochemistry, with on‑call duties and strong teamwork skills to support quality

Qualifications

• AMLS membership or equivalent
• CORU registration
• Minimum of one year of in-service training across multiple laboratory disciplines
• Essential experience in Biochemistry
• Post-qualification experience desirable
• Participation in emergency on-call rotas
• Ability to collaborate with laboratory management and hospital departments
• Strong communication and professional approach
• Adaptability to evolving healthcare environment
• Understanding of modern laboratory service requirements
• Familiarity with accreditation standards and quality control

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and enforce laboratory procedures to ensure testing processes and equipment meet best-practice standards.
• Support implementation of operational procedures and a patient-centred quality management system with audits.
• Perform diagnostic tests in line with JCI and INAB accreditation standards and manage workloads.
• Participate in on-call duties when required and manage stock processes.
• Record and report incidents, equipment defects and complaints with investigations.
• Engage in ongoing CPD and staff training.
• Promote clear, respectful communication within the lab and hospital teams.
• Adhere to health and safety procedures and contribute to safety protocols.
• Assist with laboratory information systems, data collection, reporting and reviews.
