Job summary

Glan Agua is seeking Automations and Control Engineers to join the South Regional Office in Ballincollig, Co. Cork. You will design PLC architectures, develop SCADA solutions and lead on-site commissioning for water/wastewater projects.

A degree in Automation Engineering is preferred with at least five years’ experience, and a strong ability to work in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team. You will engage with modern PLC platforms and SCADA systems, implement robust control solutions, and

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role, preferably in water/wastewater or similar.
• Degree or equivalent in Automation Engineering or related field with strong Automation, Control & Instrumentation content.

• Proficient in programming platforms: Rockwell, Schneider, Mitsubishi or Omron.
• Experience with communication protocols and networks (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus, Modbus TCP/IP/RTU, DeviceNet).
• Experience in programming and designing SCADA systems (Ignition, AVEVA, Iconics or Vijeo Citect).
• Experience commissioning VSDs and instruments and integrating into control systems.
• On-site commissioning experience.
• Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations.
• Strong analytical, interpersonal, communication, presentation and facilitation skills.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to use initiative and adjust during project delivery.
• MS packages knowledge (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong communication skills and motivation.
• Full driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Work as part of a team delivering projects, embracing a 'one team' culture.
• Ensure Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability standards on-site.
• Be familiar with HSQE management system and statutory requirements.
• Perform functional design of PLC Architecture, Networks and Interfaces.
• Develop Functional and Design Specifications from Design Briefs.
• Build and test PLC code to a high standard from Functional Specs.
• Develop and build HMI platforms to control automated systems.
• Design and develop SCADA applications for plants and update existing systems.
• Collaborate with multidiscipline engineering teams throughout projects.
• Provide technical guidance to project teams in design, implementation and testing.
• Present solutions for technical issues in control systems.
• Develop documentation and perform FAT/SAT for project sign-off.
• Plan and implement engineering tasks to meet time, cost and quality targets.
• Apply and develop engineering standards within the Automation Team.
• Coordinate with key suppliers to optimise technology use.
• Troubleshoot fault findings on highly automated systems.
• Schedule and prioritise tasks across projects within tight timelines.
• Liaise with consultants, subcontractors, site staff and commercial resources.
• Maintain CPD and stay updated with latest standards and technology.
• Mentor junior staff and support graduate development within Glan Agua.
• Other duties as required.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Work as part of a team in the delivery of one or more projects at any one time, embracing the ethos of a "one team" culture.
• Ensure Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability standards, policies, and procedures are always adhered to on-site.
• Be familiar with the HSQE management system and procedures in conjunction with the current statutory requirements.
• Perform the functional design of PLC Architecture, Networks and Communications interfaces using standard hardware and software components.
• Develop Functional and Design Specifications Documents from Design Briefs and Control Philosophies.
• Build and test PLC code to a high standard based on a Functional Specification.
• Develop and build HMI platforms to control automated systems.
• Design and develop SCADA applications for complete plants along with modifications to existing system to incorporate new control.
• Work alongside a multidiscipline team of engineers for project duration.
• Provides technical expertise and guidance to project delivery teams during system design, implementation, and testing.
• Present solutions for technical issues arising in control systems.
• Develop documentation and perform FAT and SAT as part of a project sign-off with client.
• Plan and implement all associated engineering tasks within a project to ensure time, cost, and quality targets are adhered to.
• Apply and develop engineering standards as part of the Automation Team.
• Work with key suppliers to ensure optimal use of available technologies and components.
• Ability to perform fault finding on highly automated systems.
• Schedule and prioritise tasks across assigned projects while working to tight timelines.
• Liaise with relevant consultants, subcontractors, site staff, commercial resources and the general site team involved in the project.
• Keep appraised of the latest standards and technology through continuous professional development (CPD).
