Post ID: 039553

Post Summary: The School of Medicine seeks to appoint a 1.0 FTE Associate Professor in Digital Health, Artificial Intelligence and Society to provide academic leadership at a moment of profound technological transformation in healthcare and higher education.

This is a strategic joint appointment between the School of Medicine and the University. The postholder will devote approximately half of their activity to establishing institutional capability in Digital Health, AI and Connected Health within medicine. The other half will be dedicated to a new university-wide initiative, currently in development, that will explore how artificial intelligence may fundamentally reshape learning, universities, knowledge creation and professional formation. The postholder will be expected to play a formative role in shaping this initiative from its earliest stages.

The role will also explore how artificial intelligence reshapes learning, research, and higher education and contribute to Trinity's broader exploration of the future of education, scholarship and public trust in an AI-enabled world.

Working across disciplines, the postholder will build educational programmes, research collaborations, international partnerships and experimental initiatives that strengthen digital capability, promote critical inquiry, and ensure that technological innovation remains firmly centred on human values.

This appointment recognises that digital transformation represents one of the defining changes facing healthcare and all of modern society. Future clinicians and other professionals must understand not only how to use digital technologies and artificial intelligence, but also how to evaluate them critically, understand their limitations, appreciate their ethical implications and integrate them safely into practice.

The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, curriculum development, educational scholarship, research and external engagement, helping position Trinity College Dublin as a national leader in digital health education and AI literacy.

Post status: Specific Purpose Contract

The specific purpose of this employment is to establish, develop and expand institutional capability in Digital Health, Artificial Intelligence and Connected Health within the School of Medicine and across Trinity College Dublin, through the delivery of a defined programme of strategic projects. This employment is not offered on an indefinite duration basis as the appointment is required to deliver a defined, specific and time-limited, programme to establish a university-wide ecosystem for responsible AI innovation in medicine, education and research. When the specific programme of work is completed, there will no longer be a need for the role.

  • Research and Scholarship Statement (maximum two pages)
  • Vision Statement outlining how they would contribute to building capacity in Connected Health, Digital Health and AI Literacy within Trinity College Dublin (maximum two pages)

Any applications which are still in progress at the closing time on the specified closing date will be cancelled automatically by the system.
