Job description

Powering the world’s payments ecosystem

ACI powers the payments ecosystem – globally, and you power ACI. You’ll innovate, collaborate, and grow – in an energetic technology culture with decades of proven success. ACIers – in all roles and levels – are truly your colleagues and many are your friends. Our size and reach allow you to see the global impact of your work. You are visible, your talents are valued, and you are empowered to shape the future of payments.

As a Associate Platform Engineer in Limerick, you will join a diverse, passionate team, dedicated to powering the world’s payments ecosystem!

This purpose of this Associate Platform Engineer is:

ACI's Internal Developer Platform is the foundation every product and delivery team builds on — cloud‑native infrastructure spanning Kubernetes/OpenShift and multiple cloud providers, CI/CD, observability, and the golden paths that let engineers ship payment software quickly and safely. As Associate Platform Engineer, you'll build and support well‑scoped pieces of this platform under the guidance of senior engineers, learning the infrastructure‑as‑code, container orchestration, and observability practices that make it work — with AI‑assisted tooling built into how you learn and work from day one.

A typical day at ACI for a Associate Platform Engineer is:
  • Build and maintain well‑defined pieces of the platform (CI/CD pipeline components, Kubernetes manifests, IaC modules) under the guidance of senior platform engineers
  • Learn and apply the platform's golden‑path tooling and standards, and start noticing where the “right way” could be made easier for other engineers
  • Support observability and monitoring for the services you help build — instrumenting logs and metrics, and learning what “healthy” looks like for platform infrastructure
  • Participate in the platform's on‑call rotation as a learning experience, shadowing senior engineers on incidents before taking on independent ownership
  • Use AI‑assisted engineering tools daily to accelerate your own learning, and start noticing where AI‑assisted tooling could help the platform's users, not just you
  • Write infrastructure‑as‑code for well‑scoped components, learning Terraform/Kubernetes patterns from code review feedback
  • Participate in incident postmortems and learn the platform's reliability practices firsthand
  • Ask questions early and often about how pieces of the platform fit together — building foundational systems thinking about infrastructure at scale
  • Build working relationships with the engineering teams who depend on the platform, and start understanding their needs firsthand
  • Understand and adhere to all corporate policies to include but not limited to the ACI Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
Our Tech Stack that you will work with:
  • Gen AI infrastructure — curiosity about model‑serving and vector database concepts; hands‑on use of AI coding assistants
  • Container orchestration — foundational knowledge of Kubernetes/OpenShift concepts (pods, deployments, services)
  • Infrastructure as code — growing familiarity with Terraform (or equivalent), able to make small, guided changes to existing modules
  • Cloud platforms — foundational hands‑on experience with Azure, Openshift or AWS
  • CI/CD & delivery — comfortable using existing pipelines (ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or equivalent)
  • Observability — basic familiarity with instrumentation and dashboards (Prometheus/Grafana, Datadog, or equivalent)
  • Service mesh & networking — awareness of service mesh concepts; growing networking fundamentals
Knowledge, Skills and Experience needed to succeed in this role:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Relevant experience, including internships, co‑op placements, academic projects, open‑source contributions, or equivalent hands‑on experience
  • Foundational understanding of Linux, networking, and cloud computing concepts
  • Basic programming or scripting skills and familiarity with software development principles
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions and approaches
  • Demonstrated curiosity about cloud‑native technologies and modern platform engineering practices
  • Growth mindset, with a willingness to learn from feedback, mentoring, and code reviews
  • Ability to work effectively within a collaborative engineering team and build positive working relationships with stakeholders
  • Comfortable using AI‑assisted engineering and development tools, with an interest in learning to use them effectively
  • Willingness to learn Infrastructure as Code, container orchestration, observability, and platform reliability practices hands‑on
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience needed for this role:
  • Basic familiarity with monitoring, logging, metrics, dashboards, or observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog
  • Awareness of service mesh concepts and modern cloud‑native architectures
  • Hands‑on experience using AI coding assistants or an interest in AI infrastructure and emerging technologies
  • Personal projects, home lab experience, open‑source contributions, or university projects related to infrastructure, cloud, DevOps, or automation
  • Exposure to payments, financial services, or another regulated industry
Core Capabilities:
  • Ensure Accountability: holding self and others accountable to meet commitments.
  • Drives Results: consistently achieving results, even under tough circumstances.
  • Customer Focus: building strong customer relationships and delivering customer‑centric solutions.
  • Cultivate Innovation: creating new and better ways for the organization to be successful.
