St. Luke’s Home is seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Nursing to join our management team. The role offers an opportunity to lead clinical care, support the nursing team and drive quality improvements in a person-centred environment.

Qualifications

Job description

St. Luke’s Home are currently recruiting an Assistant Director of Nursing to join our team.

This opportunity would suit an experienced CNM looking to take the next step into senior nursing management, or an existing Assistant Director of Nursing who is ready for a change and would like to join a supportive, well-run care environment.

Working closely with the Director of Nursing and the wider management team, you will play an important role in maintaining high clinical standards across the home, supporting and developing the nursing team, and ensuring residents receive safe, compassionate, and person-centred care.

Job Summary:

St Luke’s Home embraces a model of person-centred care. The holistic needs of both residents and employees are continuously increasing. A robust leadership team is required to create the person-centred culture within the Home and embrace new quality improvement initiatives so that our residents experience a high standard of evidence-based nursing care.

The Assistant Director of Nursing works in support of the Director of Nursing and will have management remit, responsibility and accountability for all services in St. Luke’s Home in partnership with his/her ADON colleague, the DON and the management Team.

In summary the role comprises of the following:

  • Organise and manage the residential and day care operations of the Home, and maintain the high standard of care and ethos for which St Luke’s Home is well known.
  • Overall responsibility to ensure that the resident is the central aspect of all activity in the Home and that their safety, privacy and dignity are protected at all times.
  • Responsible for providing clinical and managerial leadership, developing an integrated team that implements continuous quality improvements in the residents Care and Day Care services. All in accordance with the requirements of the Health Act (2007) and as amended (HIQA regulatory standards).
  • Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) standards as they apply to the role and be proactive in implementing their standards of care.
  • Manage the nursing teams comprising of the CNMs, RGNs and HCAs.
  • Manage the positions in the Home such as the activities co-ordinator, chaplaincy, social worker, medical and allied health contractors.
  • Participate in establishing and developing the best possible systems of clinical and non-clinical support for the nursing service. Assess whether the relevant services e.g. domestic, maintenance, catering, linen, supplies etc. are satisfactory and correct deficiencies in conjunction with the appropriate manager.
  • Maintain a disciplined and professional level of performance under sustained or situational pressure.
  • Maintain professional standards in relation to confidentiality, ethics and legislation.
  • The ability to be innovative and creative to deal with any crisis that may arise in the course of his/her work. Will take initiatives to move the service forward and show willingness to try out new ideas.
  • Champion and promote high-quality nursing care throughout the service.
  • Provide an on call managerial cover for the Home at the request of the DON.
  • Deputising for the Director of Nursing when required
Requirements
Essential:

The post holder will

  • be a Registered General Nurse whose name is held on the current general register of nurses as maintained by An Bord Altranais.
  • have a minimum of 3 years’ experience at Clinical Nurse Manager II or its equivalent
  • hold QQI Level 6 qualification in Management or equivalent, or currently working towards one
  • have strong knowledge of HIQA standards and regulatory requirements
  • demonstrate excellent clinical, communication and leadership skills
  • display a calm, supportive and approachable management style

Candidates must already have the right to work in Ireland without requiring an employment permit or sponsorship, as a work permit is not available for this position

Desirable:

The post holder will

  • have or be willing to undertake a recognised post registration qualification in health/management/gerontology or a related field within 2 years (NFQ Level 8/9).
  • have experience of working in older persons services care
  • have current ADON experience
