Job summary

Cornerstone’s St Edward's Afterschool in Sligo offers a developmental opportunity in childcare. You will work with the Childcare Team to meet the developmental needs of children through planned activities and early learning experiences.

Accredited training (QQI Level 5 Childcare) will be provided to support your career development. Responsibilities include assisting with curriculum planning, ensuring a safe, welcoming environment, and participating in staff meetings and supervision.

Qualifications

• No prior experience required for the role.
• QQI Level 5 Childcare training will be provided/ undertaken.
• Assist in developing long, medium, and short term curriculum plans for the setting.

Responsibilities

• Ensure developmental needs of all children are met within a framework of planned activity and early learning experiences.
• Assist with implementing a broad, balanced and appropriate early years curriculum.
• Help maintain a welcoming, friendly atmosphere in the Centre.
• Adhere to Child Protection Policy and all policies of the childcare service.
• Prepare the playroom and ensure activities are accessible to all children.
• Participate in staff meetings and supervision.
• Carry out rota duties such as cleaning and snacks.
• Be prepared to work at other Cornerstone Childcare Services as required.

Eligibility to participate on CE is generally linked to those who are 21 years or over and in receipt of a qualifying social welfare payment for 1 year or more or 18 years and over for certain disadvantaged groups. Your eligibility will have to be verified by the Department.

In conjunction with the Childcare Team: Ensure the developmental needs of all children are met within a framework of planned activity and early learning experiences. Assist in the development of long, medium and short term curriculum plans for the early years setting. Assist with implementing a broad, balanced and appropriate early years curriculum. To ensure a welcoming, friendly atmosphere in the Centre. Adhere to the Child Protection Policy of the group. Adhere to all policies and procedures of the childcare service and organisation. Adhere to strict policies and procedures regarding confidentiality. Ensure that the playroom is appropriately prepared, and activities are accessible to all children before and after each day. Participate in regular staff meetings and supervision. Carry out duties on a rota basis e.g., cleaning, preparation of snacks etc Commitment to quality improvement through ongoing professional development and training Participate in special events and outings. To work at other Cornerstone Childcare Services if required. General: Adhere to a professional code of conduct and appropriate dress. Ensure that high standards of hygiene and safety are maintained at all times. Adhere to Health and Safety Regulations. Attend any other reasonable duties relevant to the post. To work at other Cornerstone Childcare Services as requested. This may result in a change to normal working hours. Participants are required to undertake QQI Level 5 Childcare training This job description may be subject to periodic review. Extra hours worked to be offset against childcare holidays.
