Job summary

Huawei Ireland Research Centre is expanding an LLM research team in Dublin to develop AI algorithms for cutting-edge advancements in LLMs and Agents, with a focus on domain-specific foundation models and multi-agent systems tailored to Huawei Consumer Cloud services.

The Ireland-based team will collaborate closely with Huawei’s Consumer BG HQ, delivering innovations in smart health, data, infrastructure and advertising operations.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related discipline.
• 5+ years of hands-on backend or algorithm development with Python and production-grade, scalable code.
• Proven experience building and deploying LLM-powered applications or autonomous agents (RAG pipelines, conversational AI, intelligent assistants).
• Demonstrated End-to-End ownership from research to production deployment.
• Strong analytical mindset with problem-solving in dynamic environments.

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and maintain production-grade LLM-powered applications with high scalability and low latency.
• Own the end-to-end development lifecycle from requirements to deployment and monitoring.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Frontend/Backend Engineers, SREs, and stakeholders to deliver robust solutions.
• Champion clean, modular, well-documented code with testing and CI practices.
• Proactively troubleshoot incidents and improve observability for high availability.
• Stay updated on AI/ML advances and share knowledge across the team.

Huawei Ireland Research Centre's (IRC) mission is to position Huawei as a recognized technology leader and global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider. We are building an industry-recognized multi-disciplinary Research Centre of experts focusing on medium-term to long-term issues to achieve this. The IRC will work closely with an open, innovative ecosystem with Huawei customers to address real-world issues. The IRC will also engage with key European universities to build a basic research capability to support Huawei technical projects.

Recent advancements in Machine Learning and AI such as Large Language Model, Deep Learning holds the promise for solving some of the most complex challenges in cloud management that were not possible before. To name a few, proactive anomaly detection, dynamic and intelligent resource allocation, intelligent fault diagnosis and network demand prediction are among the challenging problems in this space.

Huawei Ireland Research Centre is expanding an LLM research team that will focus on research and developing AI algorithms for cutting-edge advancements in LLM and Agents, with a focus on domain-specific foundation models, multi agent and web agent systems tailored to Huawei Consumer Cloud services. Key application areas include smart health, data, infrastructure and advertising operations, etc.

The Ireland-based research team will work closely with the Huawei Consumer Business Group (CBG) in the Headquarters, CBG covers smartphones, PC and tablets, wearables, mobile broadband device, family device and device cloud service, and is the second largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. Huawei Consumer BG is dedicated to delivering the latest technologies to consumers and sharing the happiness of technological advances with more people around the world. Key Responsibilities

• Solution Design & Delivery：Architect, develop, and maintain production-grade LLM-powered applications, ensuring high scalability and low latency in complex business scenarios.
• End-to-End Ownership：Take full ownership of the entire development lifecycle—from requirements analysis and technical design to deployment and post-launch monitoring, delivering features independently.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration：Partner closely with Product Managers, Frontend Engineers, Backend Engineers, SREs, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions and seamless product experiences.
• Code Excellence：Champion clean, modular, and thoroughly documented code, enforcing best practices (code reviews, testing automation, and continuous integration).
• Production Resilience：Proactively troubleshoot production incidents, optimize error-handling mechanisms, and implement effective observability to guarantee high availability.
• Continuous Learning：Stay at the forefront of AI/ML advancements, evaluate emerging tools and frameworks, and drive knowledge sharing to elevate the entire engineering team.

• Education: Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related discipline.
• Engineering Excellence: 5+ years of hands-on experience in backend or algorithm development, with expert-level proficiency in Python and a strong track record of writing production-grade, scalable code.
• LLM & Agentic Systems: Proven experience building and deploying LLM-powered applications or autonomous agents—such as RAG pipelines, conversational AI, or intelligent assistants—with a deep understanding of their underlying architectures and limitations.
• End-to-End Ownership: Demonstrated ability to drive projects from initial research and prototyping through to production deployment, independently managing technical complexity and delivery timelines.
• Analytical Mindset: Strong problem-solving skills with a knack for structuring and resolving ambiguous, high-impact challenges in dynamic environments.
• Collaboration & Mentorship: Excellent communicator and team player, with a track record of mentoring junior engineers, fostering knowledge sharing, and contributing to a positive, high-performance culture.

Preferred Qualifications

• Earned a graduate degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) from a globally recognized university with a strong emphasis on AI/CS research.
• A proven publication record in top-tier AI conferences.
• Active involvement in or meaningful contributions to high-impact open-source AI projects, with publicly accessible portfolios.
• Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience with Java in production-grade system development, particularly for model serving or large-scale data pipelines.
