Job summary

A leading mining company in Papua, Indonesia is seeking an Environmental Manager to oversee environmental impact assessments and monitoring programs. Job description

Provide expert advice on the development and implementation of integrated environmental management and monitoring programs to ensure continuous improvement using the most current and proactive management principles. This position will focus primarily on environmental impact assessment, monitoring, and remediation in the lowland area, particularly coastal and marine ecosystems.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Monitor and advise on environmental policies and practices in the PTFI Mining Permit (IUPK) areas to ensure that all environmental policies and practices are followed in accordance with environmental regulations.
  • Monitor and advise on environmental policies and practices within the PTFI Mining Permit (IUPK) to ensure full compliance with applicable environmental regulations.
  • Provide expert input to the Environmental Division in the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of major PTFI environmental program elements, including:
  • Long-Term Environmental Monitoring Program, particularly tailings geochemistry, water and sediment quality, aquatic fauna, coastal geomorphology, and oceanographic monitoring.
  • Environmental laboratory management systems, sample analysis procedures, and Quality Control/Quality Assurance protocols.
  • Development and review of the Environmental Monitoring Database.
  • Lowland reclamation and mangrove restoration programs in coastal areas.
  • Serve as a facilitator for the PTFI Environmental Division to leverage technical expertise and support the achievement of PTFI’s strategic environmental objectives.
  • Engage with and provide advice to PTFI Business Units regarding environmental aspects and impacts to support the implementation of best environmental practices.
  • Mentor Environmental Division staff to build competencies, enhance skills, and support the establishment and maintenance of career development pathways.
  • Provide subject‑matter guidance and review environmental documents, such as monthly reports, SOPs, Environmental Monitoring Programs, Environmental Management Plans, technical reports, and environmental publications.
  • Coordinate reviews and updates of Tailings management and Estuary technical approvals with relevant stakeholders to ensure alignment with Government of Indonesia regulations, PTFI policies and commitments, and also stakeholder inputs.
  • Review and update requirements related to The Copper Mark, ICMM standards, and other international environmental frameworks applied at PTFI.
  • Provide expert support to the Environmental Monitoring, Reclamation, and Biodiversity sections in preparing reporting materials and reviewing monitoring programs to ensure accurate and appropriate information is presented for management decision‑making.
  • Maintain effective communication between the Environmental Department, jobsite senior management, and FCX Environmental Management to ensure strong coordination.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, marine science, physical science or related disciplines.
  • Ten (10) years of experience in environmental management, preferably within the mining industry or related fields.
  • Extensive experience in environmental monitoring and restoration, particularly within coastal and marine ecosystems.
  • Demonstrated concern for environmental stewardship and preventing undue impacts on the environment.
  • Strong commitment to safety and environmental responsibility.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
