Senior Piping Designer / Stress Engineer

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Assignment: 3 months, project-based (with potential extension subject to project workload)

Eligibility: Malaysian nationals only

Expected Start Date: 24 Nov 2025

Expected End Date: 24 Feb 2026

Allocated Manhours: 4500 hrs (for 10 pax across roles)

A leading energy operator is seeking experienced Senior Pipe Support Designers, Piping Stress Engineers, and Piping Designers to support a short-term major energy project in Kuala Lumpur. The roles cover 3D modelling, stress analysis, pipe support design, and multi-discipline coordination across material handling systems, piping, and structural integration. Candidates will ensure safe, reliable, and compliant designs in accordance with project specifications and industry codes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Update 3D models of material handling and piping systems incorporating model review comments received before or after reviews.
  • Ensure clash detection and resolve conflicts within 3D model environment.
  • Coordinate with structural and other engineering disciplines to finalise material handling and piping designs for seamless integration.
  • Perform routine stress calculations for piping systems, structural components, and equipment supports.
  • Conduct stress analysis for piping connected to compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, tanks, and other sensitive equipment.
  • Assist in defining and analysing load cases including operational, environmental, and accidental loads.
  • Gather design data, material properties, and load information; prepare analysis models.
  • Interpret stress analysis results to identify potential overstress or fatigue issues and provide recommendations for design improvements.
  • Select appropriate pipe support types and materials, determine support spacing and locations, and design for thermal expansion and vibration control.
  • Prepare detailed drawings and specifications for supports, including SPS drawings, dimensions, materials, and installation instructions.
  • Provide regular updates on modelling and analysis progress.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure structural integrity, compliance, and constructability.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation, reports, calculations, and records of inputs and results.
  • Ensure all work adheres to relevant codes, standards, and project specifications. Participate in design reviews and quality checks.
Minimum Requirements
  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical or Structural Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in piping stress analysis, pipe support design, and 3D piping/modelling in oil & gas or energy projects.
  • Competent in load calculation, support selection, stress/flexibility assessment, and integration with structural elements.
  • Experience in thermal expansion, vibration control, and fatigue mitigation in piping systems.
  • Skilled in 3D modelling, clash detection, and multi-discipline coordination.
  • Knowledge of industry codes, standards, and best practices.
  • Strong technical documentation, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, organised, and able to work effectively within a team.
  • Eligible Malaysian national based in Kuala Lumpur.
