McDermott International, Ltd is seeking a Quality Welding Inspector to apply conceptual and practical welding inspection knowledge on complex offshore fabrication projects. You will evaluate welding processes, verify compliance with Welding Procedure Specifications, and ensure the quality and integrity of welded products while following the Project Quality Plan.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or degree in Welding, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years welding inspection experience with degree and 8+ years with diploma.
  • CWI/CSWIP 3.1 or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Familiarity with AWS D1.1, ASME IX, ISO 3834, ISO 5817, API RP2A and project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Determine welded product conformity to customer specifications through daily surveillance and ITP inspection points as per Project Quality Plan.
  • Verify welding activities comply with WPS, PQR, codes, and customer requirements.
  • Monitor fit-up, joint preparation, welding consumables control, preheat, and interpass temperature.
  • Inspect welders, welding procedures, and production welding activities.
  • Perform visual inspections before, during, and after welding operations.

Job Overview

The Quality Welding Inspector applies conceptual and practical knowledge of welding inspection and, with a moderate level of guidance and direction from colleagues and leadership, is responsible for solving a range of straightforward welding quality issues. They are responsible for evaluating welding processes, verifying compliance with approved procedures, and ensuring the quality and integrity of welded products. The Quality Welding Inspector understands key business drivers and applies technical experience, judgment, and established standards to support project quality objectives and customer satisfaction.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Determine welded product conformity to customer specifications through daily surveillance and ITP inspection points in accordance with the Project Quality Plan
  • Verify welding activities are performed in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), project specifications, applicable codes, and customer requirements
  • Monitor fit-up, joint preparation, welding consumables control, preheat, and interpass temperature
  • Inspect and verify welder qualifications, welding procedures, and production welding activities
  • Perform visual inspections before, during, and after welding operations to ensure compliance with applicable standards and acceptance criteria
  • Coordinate and witness Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) Team activities including RT, UT/PAUT, MT, PT, and other required inspection methods
  • Identify welding non-conformities, initiate NCRs when required, and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions are implemented and verified
  • Appraise product quality to determine conformity and non-conformity in accordance with approved drawings, welding specifications, codes, and Inspection & Test Plans
  • Review and maintain welding inspection records, NDE reports, material traceability records, and quality documentation
  • Coordinate interfaces with Operations, Engineering, Certifying Authority, Client Representatives, subcontractors, and third-party inspectors to ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Exercise a proactive approach to problem prevention by interacting with Production, Welding Engineers, and Management personnel
  • Monitor repair welding activities and verify satisfactory closure of all welding-related quality issues
  • Liaise with Customer Representatives, ensuring product conformity and stage release for each activity identified within the Project Quality Plan and ITP
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Education
  • High school diploma or degree in Welding, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related technical discipline
  • Five plus (5+) years of welding inspection or quality control experience with a degree and eight plus (8+) years with a diploma
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), CSWIP 3.1, or equivalent welding inspection certification preferred
  • Working knowledge of international welding codes and standards such as AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, ASME B31.3, ISO 3834, ISO 5817, API RP2A, and project-specific requirements
  • Experience with fabrication, offshore structures, jackets, topsides, piping, pressure vessels, or similar construction projects
  • Familiarity with welding processes such as SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and SAW
  • Knowledge of NDE methods and interpretation of inspection reports
  • Proficient in the use of computers and Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, coating specifications, procedures, and inspection documentation
  • Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills
