Job summary

McDermott International, Ltd invites an experienced Project Controls Specialist (Quantity Surveying Focus) to work in a fabrication yard environment. You will analyze IFC/AFC drawings, MTOs, and fabrication drawings to ensure accurate alignment between quantities, progress, and reporting.

You will perform detailed quantity take-offs for structural steel, piping, equipment installation, electrical, instrumentation, insulation, and coating works, and you will reconcile MTOs with actual fabrication

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management with relevance to EPC/fabrication.
  • 4–5 years of experience in EPC, fabrication yard, or construction environments.
  • Strong ability to read IFC/AFC and fabrication drawings.
  • Experience with quantity take-offs and cost control processes.
  • Fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and English; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review IFC/AFC drawings and fabrication drawings for quantity verification.
  • Perform quantity take-offs for structural steel, piping, equipment, and coatings.
  • Reconcile MTOs with actual fabrication quantities and maintain tracking systems.
  • Develop quantity-based progress measurement and support reporting.
  • Support change management, variations, and cost/claims processes.

Job Overview

The Project Controls Specialist (Quantity Surveying Focus) applies their knowledge of Project Controls with an emphasis on quantity-based measurement and analysis within a fabrication yard environment. With a moderate level of guidance from colleagues and leadership, they are responsible for solving a range of straightforward problems related to quantity verification, progress tracking, and cost support activities. The role involves analyzing data derived from engineering documents such as IFC/AFC drawings, MTOs, and fabrication drawings to ensure accurate alignment between actual quantities, project progress, and reporting outputs. They apply standard procedures, technical judgment, and established practices to support decision-making, while building knowledge of company processes, fabrication workflows, and project requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Quantity Measurement & Verification
    • Review and interpret IFC/AFC drawings, MTOs, isometric drawings, and fabrication drawings
    • Perform detailed quantity take-offs for:
      • Structural steel (tonnage)
      • Piping (Dia-inch, weld counts)
      • Equipment installation
      • Electrical, instrumentation, insulation, and coating works
    • Reconcile engineering MTOs with actual fabrication quantities
    • Maintain and update quantity tracking systems and databases
  • Progress Measurement & Reporting
    • Develop and maintain quantity-based progress measurement systems
    • Validate actual work progress based on physical quantities
    • Calculate earned quantities and earned manhours
    • Support weekly and monthly progress reporting
    • Align quantity-based progress with project controls reporting and earned value analysis
  • Change Management & Variations
    • Quantify scope changes arising from design revisions or site conditions
    • Support Management of Change (MOC) processes
    • Assess quantity impacts from updated drawings
    • Support preparation of variation orders and change proposals
  • Cost & Commercial Support
    • Prepare and maintain Bills of Quantities (BOQ)
    • Support cost estimation and unit-rate development for fabrication works
    • Validate subcontractor quantities and invoices
    • Contribute to Value of Work Done (VOWD) calculations
    • Support cost forecasting and reporting activities
  • Contract & Claims Support
    • Maintain auditable quantity records to support claims and EOT submissions
    • Quantify impacts related to delays, disruptions, and scope growth
    • Support commercial discussions with clients and subcontractors
    • Assist in final account reconciliation
  • Cross-Functional Coordination
    • Work closely with Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commercial teams
    • Ensure alignment between engineering deliverables and fabrication progress
    • Support Project Controls team with accurate, quantity-based data inputs
Essential Qualifications and Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical) or Construction Management
  • Minimum 4–5 years of experience in EPC, fabrication yard, or construction environment
  • Strong experience in quantity take-offs, BOQ preparation, and MTO reconciliation
  • Proven ability to read and interpret IFC/AFC drawings and fabrication drawings
  • Experience in piping, structural steel, and fabrication-related quantity measurement
  • Familiarity with cost control, estimation, and variation/claims processes
  • Strong analytical and coordination skills
  • Proficient in Excel and reporting tools
  • Effective problem-solving mindset with the ability to analyze complex data and provide actionable insights
  • Fluent in both Bahasa Indonesia and English with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
Preferred Qualifications and Education
  • Familiarity with global project environments and multicultural team dynamics is preferred
