Monroe Consulting Group Indonesia, an Executive Recruitment firm, is representing a leading engineering and building services company in the search for an experienced HVAC Design Engineer to join their team in Batam, Indonesia.

Position Overview

This role is ideal for an engineering professional with strong expertise in HVAC system design, engineering calculations, and technical documentation. Candidates with experience in cleanroom design for electronics, semiconductor, or pharmaceutical facilities will be strongly prioritized.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform independent engineering calculations and HVAC system design, including cooling load calculations, duct and pipe sizing, and selection of air-conditioning equipment, fans, and pumps based on capacity and static pressure requirements.
• Prepare comprehensive engineering design packages for review and endorsement by the Professional Engineer (PE) partner, including calculation reports, equipment schedules, single-line diagrams, and technical drawings.
• Develop and standardize engineering calculation templates and design deliverables in accordance with applicable international and local standards, including ASHRAE, Singapore Standards (SS 553), and SNI.
• Support estimating and tendering activities through preparation of Bills of Quantities (BoQ) and value engineering initiatives to optimize design efficiency and project costs.
• Participate in technical meetings with international clients, presenting engineering calculations, design concepts, and technical recommendations in English.
• Collaborate closely with Project Managers to ensure designs are practical, safe, and constructible.
• Incorporate project execution feedback into engineering standards, best practices, and design methodologies.

Key Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree (S1) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in HVAC, plumbing, or fire protection design, with strong hands-on expertise in engineering calculations and system design.
• Holds an SKK Konstruksi certification at Madya level in the Mechanical discipline, or is eligible and willing to obtain the certification promptly. Utama-level certification will be an advantage.
• Willing to be based in Batam, Indonesia.

Technical Competencies

• Strong technical knowledge of cooling load calculations, HVAC system sizing, and equipment selection.
• Experience using Carrier HAP, Elite CHVAC, or equivalent HVAC engineering software.
• Proficient in preparing and interpreting technical drawings using AutoCAD.
• Familiarity with Revit is an advantage.
• Good written and spoken English with the ability to communicate technical information effectively to international clients.

Preferred Qualifications

Cleanroom & Specialized Engineering Experience

• Experience incleanroom design in accordance with ISO 14644, including:
  • Air change rate calculations
  • Pressure cascade design
  • HEPA/ULPA filtration systems
  • Applications within electronics, semiconductor, or pharmaceutical facilities

Candidates with cleanroom experience will be strongly prioritized.

Additional Advantages

• Knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), including ventilation simulation, smoke control, cleanroom airflow, or data center cooling analysis using ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, or equivalent software.
• Experience applying Singapore standards and regulations, including SS/CP standards and SCDF requirements.
• Experience working with multinational clients and international project environments.
• Additional professional certifications such as:
  • IPM/STRI
  • ASHRAE certifications
  • Green Building certifications (GP/GA)
• Experience within shipyard, fabrication, engineering consultancy, or building services consulting environments.
