The LGBTQIA+ Peer Practitioner role is designed to provide culturally safe, peer-based mental health support to young people aged 12–25 who identify as LGBTQIA+ and are at risk of, or experiencing, mental health challenges. Drawing on personal lived experience of mental health recovery, the practitioner will foster hope, empowerment, and inclusion, helping young people and their families navigate their recovery journey in a safe and supportive environment. This position is central to creating spaces that destigmatize mental health issues and promote resilience through shared experiences.
Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team at headspace Edinburgh North, the practitioner will deliver individual peer support, co-design and facilitate group programs, and assist with care coordination and service navigation. The role also involves engaging with community stakeholders to improve access and inclusion for LGBTQIA+ youth, contributing to quality improvement initiatives, and participating in ongoing professional development.
