Job summary

Michael Page is recruiting on behalf of a leading Indonesian coal mining company for a Head of Operations to oversee a key site. You will lead all site operations, develop production plans, and drive safety and efficiency across mining, hauling, maintenance and HSE.

Extensive leadership experience in open-pit coal mines is required, with a track record of managing large multidisciplinary teams in remote sites. This role offers long-term growth in a growing mining organisation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
• 15+ years in coal mining operations with senior site leadership.
• Proven track record in large-scale open-pit mining operations.
• Strong understanding of mine production, hauling, maintenance and HSE.

Responsibilities

• Lead all site operations as the highest-ranking operational authority.
• Develop and execute production plans to achieve coal output and quality targets.
• Oversee mining, hauling, stockpile and related activities to maximise productivity.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.
• Drive a strong safety culture and continuously improve site safety performance.
• Manage operational budgets, costs and resource allocation to optimise profitability.
• Supervise and develop site leadership teams including production, engineering, maintenance and HSE.
• Manage contractors and stakeholders for efficient site operations.
• Monitor operational KPIs and implement improvement initiatives.
• Provide regular operational reporting to executive management.

Job Description

The Requirements Are

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Extensive minimum 15 years experience within coal mining operations, including senior site leadership roles.
• Proven track record managing large-scale open-pit mining operations.
• Strong understanding of mine production, hauling, maintenance, HSE, and contractor management.
• Demonstrated ability to lead large multidisciplinary teams in remote site environments.
• Excellent stakeholder management and leadership skills.
• Strong commercial awareness with experience managing operational budgets and costs.
• Holder of relevant mining certifications and permits required by Indonesian regulations is preferred.
