Job description

TheHead Baristaat Elephant Grounds is a leadership role responsible for overseeing coffee operations, ensuring exceptional quality for coffee and other signature beverages, and maintaining high standards of service. This position requires a deep passion for coffee, strong leadership skills, and the ability to train and inspire the barista team. The Head Barista will work closely with Elephant Grounds to develop localized coffee programs, maintain equipment, and uphold the brand’s reputation for excellence.

You will also work closely with the roasting and front of house team to do your tasks well.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the coffee bar, ensuring efficient workflow and high standards of quality.
• Train, mentor, and motivate baristas to enhance their skills and promote a positive work environment.
• Maintain and develop where necessary beverage recipes, ensuring consistency and quality in all drinks.
• Monitor inventory and manage ordering of coffee beans, milk, and other supplies.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the coffee bar and equipment.
• Engage with customers to provide recommendations and ensure a memorable experience.
• Stay informed about coffee trends, techniques, and innovations in barista skills.
• Assist in marketing efforts, including social media promotions and community events.

Skills and qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (required); Barista certification or relevant coursework (preferred).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a barista, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of coffee preparation, espresso machines, and brewing methods.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Specialty coffee certifications (e.g., SCA, Barista Guild) are a plus.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
• Proficient in latte art and beverage presentation.
