BMW Indonesia Government & External Affair Indonesia
Leads the BMW Indonesia office in managing government and stakeholder relations, political communication, and policy monitoring.
Channels legislative and regulatory developments to regional and central functions, ensuring alignment with BMW Group’s overall strategy in Southeast Asia.
The ASEAN region, comprising over 600 million inhabitants and key markets such as Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, has been identified by BMW Group as part of the “Next 10” growth cluster.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee BMW Indonesia’s public policy and government affairs strategy, ensuring proactive engagement with ministries, agencies, and industry associations on issues impacting BMW operations.
- Manage the local lobbying and advocacy process — from policy identification and analysis to engagement planning — integrating central expertise and positions into local implementation.
- Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments relevant to BMW Group’s business model in Indonesia, including CO₂ and environmental policies, e‑mobility, technical and safety standards, customs and excise, import duties, and trade frameworks.
- Establish an early‑warning mechanism to inform central Government Affairs and Sustainability teams in Munich of emerging regulatory or policy shifts.
- Lead engagement with authorities related to BMW’s prospective manufacturing and localization initiatives (including SKD/CKD harmonization for TH, MY, ID and the CKD project in Vietnam) to ensure political conformity, compliance, and alignment with Group strategy.
- Track and assess developments in regional and bilateral trade frameworks, including FTAs and negotiations with the EU, US, and other partners, highlighting potential implications for BMW’s trade and localization strategy.
- Foster regional synergy by exploring potential partnerships and collaborations in the areas of sourcing, supply, and production, leveraging the ASEAN ecosystem to strengthen BMW’s competitiveness and resilience.
- Provide strategic advice to management on political and regulatory trends, identifying medium‑to‑long‑term risks and opportunities for BMW’s growth in Indonesia and the broader ASEAN region.
Key Accountabilities
- Deliver effective policy influence in line with BMW Group’s strategic objectives.
- Ensure all external interactions comply with local laws and corporate governance standards.
- Promote cross‑border collaboration and information sharing within the region’s team to maximize regional opportunities in sourcing, supply chain, and production.
- Maintain strong coordination with ASEAN Government Affairs leads and Munich headquarters to ensure consistent regional positioning and timely information flow.
What you should bring along?
- Min. Bachelor degree within specialization in international business or political science preferable.
- 8-10 Years working experience in the automotive industry required.
- Proven skills and leadership with the implementation of politically‑motivated projects (e.g. government‑funded project, cooperation).
- Professional knowledge with international communications projects required.
- Fluent in written and spoken English. German language skills would be a plus.
- Multi‑year professional international background with the ability to work in multi‑national, multi‑functional and complex projects.
- Active network at local level as well as to strategy and technical departments.
- Ability to resolve conflicts and persuasive ability to assert interests.
- Strong implementation skills and experience in lobbying in an international environment.
