Job summary

World Resources Institute (WRI) Indonesia is seeking a Fundraising Specialist for the Ocean Program to lead fundraising strategy and donor engagement. The role focuses on developing proposals and coordinating with the Development team to mobilize resources for blue economy and ocean-climate initiatives.

You will map funding landscapes, craft donor-facing materials, and nurture partnerships with philanthropies, development banks, and NGOs.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in fundraising for nonprofits or startups.

Fundraising Specialist for Ocean Program - Ocean and Plastic Waste Program

This is a hybrid position which requires 8 days per month intheoffice. You will be based in our office in WRI Indonesia, Jakarta.Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission as WRI is unable to sponsor any visa work sponsorship for this position.

Program Overview

Indonesia envisions that in 2045 the country will be able to transform its economy from a natural resource-dependent economy to a modern, competitive manufacturing- and service-based economy with high value-added to secure prosperity and social justice for all Indonesians. This transformation will capitalize on the country's maritime strengths by incorporating better ocean resource management to leverage the blue economy development for increasing environmental. sustainability as well as building competitive, innovative, and sustainable maritime sectors.

While oceans and the marine environment are vital for Indonesia's nature and prosperity, their true contribution is often overlooked in the climate change narrative. WRI Indonesia Ocean program has identified, at the very least, two devastating consequences if the status quo remains. First, the ongoing degradation of marine and coastal ecosystems will lead to a further decline in ecosystem function and loss of biodiversity. Second, Indigenous People and Local Communities living in coastal areas will face an escalating degree of poverty, increasing their vulnerability and limiting their capacity to adapt and mitigate climate change effects.

WRI Indonesia Ocean program aimed for an inclusive ocean climate aligned with people, nature and climate focus. The objectives are structured to be achieved by working in two modules: blue carbon ecosystem and sustainable aquatic food, laid in the foundation of GEDSI, technological innovation (including AI), financing, and strong literacy on sustainable blue economy. WRI Indonesia is working on several research-action and convening projects, among others:

Blue carbon ecosystem governance and financing; Machine learning and data tools for sustainable ocean management Low carbon and sustainable ocean-climate Sustainable aquatic food.

Job Highlight

The Fundraising Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing fundraising strategy in coordination with the WRI Development team to mobilize resources to finance the programmatic plan of action in the area of ocean-climate, blue food, blue economy; upscaling the completed and/or on-going projects, among others: climate smart-aquaculture in other areas which may include ASEAN region

Reporting to the Ocean & Plastic Waste Manager, this position will be based in Jakarta with office-flex working arrangement and travel requirements as needed. In support of WRI's DEI commitment, you are responsible for actively participating in these collaborative efforts by integrating equity into your work, our workplace, and the organizational culture.

What You Will Do
Fundraising and proposal development (80%):

Identify and map the funding landscapes for Ocean Action initiatives (blue carbon, ocean climate, blue food, blue economy) from philanthropies, development donors, multilateral development banks, and other potential funders.

Develop and provide recommendations on fundraising strategies and approaches for the Ocean Program, including resource mobilization priorities, opportunities to scale existing programmatic initiatives, and potential pathways for partnerships and funding.

Provide fundraising advisory and coordination support for the Ocean Program in close coordination with the Development team

Identify potential upscale of the research project of the Climate Smart Shrimp Aquaculture (CSSA), Ocean Calculator, and others.

Develop strategies to ensure the recommendations, deliverables and innovations produced by the CSSA project can be taken up by government or private sectors.

Collect and analyze all the information and/or project deliverables under other programs that may relevant to Ocean program priorities, in coordination with Knowledge Management and MEL.

Identify and advice specific topics or areas for project development taking into account WRI Indonesia Country Strategy and existing programmatic modalities

Identify and analyze financing grant opportunities that are aligned with Ocean portfolio’ priorities and WRI’s fundraising policies.

Identify and conduct pre-due diligence of potential partners (NGO and/or private sector) for project proposal development

Identify mechanism for collaboration with potential partners aligned with funders’ requirements.

Lead the co-creation of project proposal involving relevant portfolio in WRI Indonesia and external stakeholders, including the preparation and finalization of project Theory of Change and logical frameworks.

Write (draft and finalize) various draft proposals and/or pitch deck that align with donors/funders’ interests in coordination with programmatic team and development team.

Conduct self-research and desk study in relation to fundraising activities and proposal development

Project Management and Engagement (20%)

Facilitate and support stakeholders engagement in relation to fundraising activity, including but not limited to the government counterpart, private sector, development partners, financing institutions

Support the communication team in developing content that are aligned for fundraising activities.

Contribute as resource person in relevant stakeholder forums related to fundraising activities.

What You Will Need

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in economics, business administration, finance, international development, environmental management, sustainable development, or other relevant field. Master’s degree is preferred.

Minimum 5 (five) years of relevant professional experience in fundraising through solicited and/or non-solicited mechanisms, for non-profit and/or start-up companies. Prior engagement on environmental projects that are relevant to, among others: climate/AI or machine learning/cities/energy/land-use focus areas, are desirable.

Experience in developing fundraising strategies and identifying resource mobilization opportunities

Experience in developing high-quality concept notes, project proposals, and/or other donor-facing materials for various funders with strong ability to translate technical or programmatic ideas into compelling funding propositions

Strong understanding of donor priorities, funding mechanisms, and partnership models

Excellent communication and presentation skills in Bahasa Indonesia or English, with the ability to effectively convey the organization's mission and impact to diverse audiences.

Experience in developing attractive and informative pitch deck.

Strong understanding in project Theory of Change, Logical Framework and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL).

Familiarity with the Indonesian environmental landscape, including relevant policies, stakeholders, and funding opportunities.

Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills; a demonstrated ability to diplomatically and effectively to collaborate internally and external entities to develop project fundraising.

Proactive, strategic, and result-oriented with ability to work independently and manage multiple, competing priorities.

Legally able to work in Indonesia

Preferred Qualifications:

Passionate about blue economy issues, such-as: blue carbon and blue food intersect with GEDSI, big data/AI/machine learning, decarbonization, etc

Proven track record of directly participating in securing grants from philanthropies, donor agencies, or multi-lateral organizations.

Experience working in an international team environment a plus; must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, with a diverse staff, across multiple time zones, and within tight and often parallel deadlines

Ability to travel when needed

Duration

1. Recommendations, deliverables and concept of CSSA project are packaged and positioned for dissemination, uptake, and/or further development through identified follow up projects or partnerships.

2. Develop and/or submit at least 5 (five) solicited funding proposals each with proposed funding amount at least USD 200k/year on the priority areas such as: blue food, ocean literacy, or others Ocean Program priorities.

3. Develop and/or submit at least 3 (three) multi-year project proposals in priority areas such as blue food, ocean literacy, or others Ocean Program priorities.

4. Develop a fundraising strategy including analysis of funding mechanism, priority funding areas, and a database of potential donors and funding opportunities.

5. At least 5 (five) fundraising pitch decks/concept presentations developed for priority project concepts and funding opportunities.

6. At least 50% of priority funding opportunities progressed to the next stage of engagement (donor meetings, expression of interest, concept notes requests, or proposal invitations).

Terms of Payment

Daily rate-based consultant with a maximum of 18 (eighteen) working days per month.
