Job summary

JAPFA is seeking a dedicated driver to transport live chicks from our facilities to destinations mainly in the Bati-Bati region, ensuring timely delivery and welfare during transit.

The role requires maintaining safe driving practices, performing routine vehicle checks, and coordinating with dispatch and farm personnel to meet delivery schedules while upholding animal welfare standards.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A or B driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a professional driver, preferably in livestock or refrigerated transport.
• Familiarity with road networks and routes within the Bati-Bati area and surrounding regions.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as required.
• Strong sense of responsibility and commitment to animal welfare.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Physically fit and able to lift and move heavy loads as needed.

Responsibilities

• Operate company vehicles (vans) for the transportation of live chicks, ensuring adherence to all traffic laws and company safety protocols.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any defects or maintenance needs promptly.
• Load and unload chicks carefully, following established procedures to minimize stress and injury to the animals.
• Maintain appropriate environmental conditions within the vehicle during transit, including temperature and ventilation, to ensure chick well-being.
• Complete and maintain accurate delivery logs, journey records, and other required documentation.
• Communicate effectively with dispatch, farm personnel, and receiving staff regarding delivery schedules and any issues encountered.
• Adhere to all animal welfare regulations and company policies related to the handling and transport of live poultry.
• Keep the vehicle clean and organized.
