Chemical Analyst (Entry Level – Research Focus)
We are seeking a Chemical Analyst with a postgraduate (research-based) academic background to join our internal R&D team. This role is critical to supporting FOOM’s scientific exploration and product optimization efforts by analyzing and evaluating non-flavor chemical additives used in vape products, such as Propylene Glycol (PG), Vegetable Glycerin (VG), Sweeteners, Chillers, Water, and Filler Substances (e.g., triacetin, palm oil). The analyst will work in-house and lead experimental design, chemical quantification, and ingredient interaction studies to support product performance and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct quantitative and interaction-based studies on PG/VG ratios, sweeteners (e.g., sucralose, neotame), chillers (e.g., WS-23), and other functional excipients.
- Operate and maintain advanced analytical instruments including GC‑MS, HPLC, FTIR, UV‑VIS, and related lab equipment.
- Interpret test results and recommend optimal formulation ratios to the flavorist and product development teams based on taste impact, stability, and vape performance.
- Design and execute scientifically sound experiments to validate ingredient compatibility, interaction effects, and burning behavior.
- Work closely with R&D, QC, Procurement, and Product Development teams to ensure ingredient quality, compatibility, and performance consistency.
- Propose alternative ingredients and new materials, backed by literature reviews and vendor research, to enhance formulation quality and cost‑efficiency.
- Perform statistical data analysis (e.g., ANOVA, regression analysis) to support decision-making.
- Document findings and maintain structured internal reports. In the future, support the creation of internal white papers, reviews, and scientific documentation.
Education
- Analytical Chemistry
- Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Must be research-based (thesis track), not coursework-only.
Experience
- 0–2 years of work experience, ideally in an analytical lab in pharmaceutical or cosmetic companies.
- University or institutional research labs with relevant analytical studies.
- Experience in vape, tobacco, cosmetic, or pharma industries is a plus but not mandatory.
Preferred Skills & Attributes
- Proficient in operating GC‑MS, HPLC, FTIR, UV‑VIS, and other analytical instrumentation.
- Familiarity with scientific literature review tools (Google Scholar, SciFinder).
- Strong capability in data analysis and statistics using tools like Excel (DOE), Minitab, or SPSS.
- Ability to translate chemical data into actionable product recommendations.
- Passionate about scientific exploration and product innovation.
- Proactive in identifying alternative ingredients and new solutions.
- Excellent collaboration and communication across departments.
