Position Overview

RecruitGo is looking for a driven and detail-oriented Assistant Bookkeeping Manager to support the Bookkeeping Manager in overseeing daily team operations and ensuring accurate, high-quality financial services for our clients. This role involves supervising team performance, reviewing complex financial transactions, and providing technical and leadership support to Supervisors and bookkeepers.

The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, and skilled in managing both people and processes, with strong experience in Australian bookkeeping standards and Xero.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Bookkeeping Manager in supervising daily workflows and ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Review complex financial transactions, activity statements, and year-end reconciliations.
  • Ensure payroll accuracy and compliance with client and internal requirements.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to Supervisors and team members.
  • Step in for the Bookkeeping Manager during absences or as delegated.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one coaching sessions and performance monitoring.
  • Support onboarding, internal training, and performance reviews.
  • Communicate with clients regarding escalated or complex issues.
  • Prepare monthly management reports and reconciliations.
  • Help identify and implement process improvements within the bookkeeping team.
  • Monitor team capacity and workloads to ensure timely delivery of client outputs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA preferred but not required.
  • Minimum 4+ years of experience in Australian bookkeeping or accounting roles.
  • 2–3 years of experience in a team lead or assistant managerial capacity.
  • Proficient in Xero and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Experience with Xero Ecosystem apps such as Dext, Deputy, and Lightspeed.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple clients and priorities efficiently.
  • A continuous improvement mindset and a collaborative leadership style.
