Job summary

South China Morning Post SCMP is seeking a Supervising Producer for SCMP Video in Hong Kong. The role oversees a team of Video Journalists and independent filmmakers across Asia, approving pitches, assigning work, and guiding script development.

You will lead with strong news judgement, mentor producers, and shape long-form and short-form content, including SCMP Films projects, while ensuring quality across the video portfolio.

Qualifications

• 7–10 years in video news and feature/documentary production with leadership experience
• Native English speaker with strong writing ability; Cantonese and Mandarin preferred
• Proven track record of excellent news judgement and ability to respond to breaking news
• Experience managing a team and mentoring producers
• Ability to craft cohesive, engaging storylines and plan long-term release schedules
• Familiarity with digital video landscape and analytics; filming and editing skills preferred

Responsibilities

• Be the editorial lead for a team of Video Journalists
• Approve pitches and assign stories
• Coach Producers in video production techniques and writing
• Demonstrate strong news judgement in breaking news situations
• Approve and edit video scripts
• Tweak and finesse draft videos
• Approve video final cuts
• Write video scripts for features and reports
• Contribute to smooth management of the Video team
• Conduct performance appraisals for direct reports
