Job summary

City University of Hong Kong invites applications for Senior Research Assistant/Research Assistant in the Department of English. The role supports video-based analysis of spoken language in real-world settings for social, academic, and professional communication.

Appointment is for 12 months, with duties ranging from data collection to qualitative analysis. The successful candidate will hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree with experience in multimodal data analysis and English proficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; training in spoken-language analysis and multimodal interaction preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and rigorous research approach required.
• Excellent command of English; good communication and organizational skills.
• Willingness to work independently and collaboratively on research projects.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with participants and stakeholders to support project implementation.
• Collect, manage, and annotate multimodal data (video, audio, transcripts).
• Conduct multimodal analysis of video/audio data, incl. gesture, gaze, and interaction events.
• Support linguistic analyses and cross-linguistic patterns in English and/or Mandarin Chinese.
• Assist with mixed-methods data analysis and qualitative coding.
• Maintain accurate, confidential research records and support reports.
