Job summary

Sun Life is seeking a Senior Manager, Data & Insights to lead the transformation of our CVM data and analytics ecosystem. You will drive the migration of legacy databases and dashboards to the enterprise cloud-based data hub, bridge business and IT teams, and enable self-service analytics for data-driven customer engagement and advisor productivity.

Candidate with more experience may be considered for Associate Director.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in Data Engineering, BI, Data Warehousing, Analytics, or related disciplines.
• Proven experience delivering large-scale data migration or data transformation programs.
• Experience supporting CRM, customer analytics, marketing analytics, or CVM-related initiatives.

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically strong Senior Manager, Data & Insights to lead the transformation of our Customer Value Management (CVM) data and analytics ecosystem.

This role will play a critical leadership position in driving the migration of existing tactical databases, dashboards, and data pipelines to the enterprise Data Hub architecture while ensuring uninterrupted support for key CVM initiatives. The successful candidate will bridge business and technology teams to deliver scalable data solutions, enable self-service analytics, and accelerate data-driven customer engagement, campaign management, and advisor productivity initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead Tactical Database Migration Program

• Serve as the technical lead for migration of legacy/tactical databases, data pipelines, and reporting assets to the strategic cloud-based data platform.
• Drive current-state assessment, target architecture design, migration planning, development, testing, and implementation.
• Partner with Enterprise Architecture, IT, Data Engineering, and Business stakeholders to ensure smooth transition with minimal business disruption.
• Support migration of Tableau dashboards, data marts, SQL assets, and related analytics capabilities into the future-state data ecosystem.
• Establish migration governance, risk management, reconciliation, and data validation processes to ensure data quality and integrity.

2. Enable CVM Analytics and Campaign Initiatives

• Deliver data solutions supporting customer portfolio analytics, campaign measurement, client tagging, customer insights, and advisor productivity initiatives.
• Support business teams in campaign targeting, performance tracking, customer segmentation, and lead management capabilities.
• Develop and maintain datasets required for customer lifecycle management, cross-sell/up-sell programs, retention strategies, and personalized customer engagement.
• Partner with Marketing, Distribution, Digital, and Customer Experience teams to unlock business value through data and insights.
• Drive continuous enhancement of CVM dashboards, campaign performance reporting, and customer analytics capabilities.

3. Data Engineering & Solution Delivery

• Design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines using cloud and database technologies.
• Manage data ingestion, transformation, validation, and automation processes across multiple data sources.
• Lead development activities involving SQL, AWS, Redshift, ETL workflows, and analytics data marts.
• Ensure data availability, performance, security, and operational stability for business-critical reporting and analytics solutions.
• Introduce automation opportunities to reduce manual processing and improve delivery efficiency.

4. Stakeholder Management & Project Delivery

• Act as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams.
• Translate business requirements into actionable data and analytics solutions.
• Manage project roadmap, delivery priorities, risks, dependencies, and stakeholder communications.
• Drive adoption of analytics solutions through training, documentation, and user engagement activities.
• Provide leadership and guidance to analysts, developers, and project resources.

5. Data Governance & Quality Management

• Implement and maintain data quality controls, lineage, metadata, and documentation standards.
• Support data governance initiatives and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Ensure appropriate access management and controls across CVM data assets.
• Promote best practices in data management, development standards, and operational excellence.

Required Qualifications

Experience

• 8+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing, Analytics, or related disciplines.
• Proven experience delivering large-scale data migration or data transformation programs.
• Experience supporting CRM, customer analytics, marketing analytics, or CVM-related initiatives.
• Strong stakeholder management experience across business and IT organizations.
• Financial services, insurance, banking, or consulting experience preferred.

Technical Skills

• Strong SQL and relational database expertise.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services (Redshift, Glue, Athena, S3) or equivalent cloud data platforms.
• Experience with Tableau, Power BI, or enterprise BI tools.
• Knowledge of ETL/ELT design, data modeling, and data architecture.
• Familiarity with Python or other data engineering technologies is an advantage.
