Job summary

Confidential Client in Hong Kong seeks a Senior Engineer (Civil) to lead on-site civil works for major projects. You will plan, supervise and ensure compliance with drawings, specs and ITPs, coordinating with site teams and consultants.

Strong bilingual ability (English/Chinese) and a background with main contractor deliveries are essential. The role offers exposure to water, roads, rail, and environmental civil packages, with a clear pathway to senior progression and professional development

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 6 years' site experience on major civil projects.
• Experience with main contractor side delivery.
• Membership in professional bodies (e.g., MHKIE/CEng MICE) preferred.
• Strong English and Chinese (Cantonese and/or Putonghua).

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct and supervise civil works on site, ensuring compliance with drawings, specs, method statements and ITPs.
• Coordinate with site agents, foremen, subcontractors, consultants and client representatives.
• Review temporary works, construction methodology and technical submissions.
• Drive programme adherence in conjunction with the planning team; flag and resolve critical-path risks early.
• Control quality, safety and environmental standards on your work fronts.
• Support the Project Engineer / APM in cost, variation and progress reporting.
• Mentor graduate and site engineers.

The civil portfolio you would join (live projects, described in confidence)

You will be placed into one or more of the following active civil engineering projects - at offer stage we disclose exact assignments:

• Water & wastewater mega-projects - large-scale sewage and wastewater treatment infrastructure in the New Territories, including treatment plant civil works and one of Hong Kong's most complex underground construction programmes
• Flood protection & river works - major flood barrier, pumping station and river channel works in the western New Territories, delivered under modern collaborative NEC contracting
• Highways & strategic roads - strategic trunk road widening, new interchanges and associated infrastructure within a flagship northern new development area
• Railway civil engineering - new railway station and trackwork civils on a live MTR corridor, delivered under target-cost NEC partnering contracts
• Environmental infrastructure - long-term design-build-operate environmental facilities in the western New Territories
• Airport works - civil and tunnel works supporting airport operations
• Northern Metropolis pipeline - ongoing and successive public infrastructure packages across the northern territory, within a group programme reported to exceed HK$100 billion

The role - Senior Engineer (Civil)

Working within the contractor's civil engineering division, under the direction of the Project Manager / Agent, you will take ownership of day-to-day engineering delivery on large-scale civil works:

• Plan, direct and supervise civil works on site, ensuring compliance with drawings, specifications, method statements and ITPs
• Coordinate with site agents, foremen, subcontractors, consultants and client representatives
• Review temporary works, construction methodology and technical submissions
• Drive programme adherence in conjunction with the planning team; flag and resolve critical-path risks early
• Control quality, safety and environmental standards on your work fronts
• Support the Project Engineer / APM in cost, variation and progress reporting
• Mentor graduate and site engineers

Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent discipline
• Minimum 6 years' site experience on large-scale civil engineering projects, main contractor side
• Solid grounding in civil works: roads and drainage, water/wastewater structures, railway civils, marine or cavern works (relevant experience matched to the assigned project)
• Professional membership (e.g. MHKIE / CEng MICE) preferred - chartership recognised with a salary premium
• Strong written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and/or Putonghua)
• Hands-on with site documentation: method statements, ITPs, RFIs, progress records
• Ambition for APM track is a genuine advantage - this contractor promotes from within across a 70+ project Hong Kong portfolio

• Base salary at a competitive market rate for a chartered senior engineer at a tier-one contractor
