Resident Assistant Structural Engineer (RASE)
Project: Kwu Tung North SS R501
Location: Kwu Tung North Site / Off-site MiC factory visits
Job Duties
- Watch, inspect, test and examine materials used, and Contractor’s and MiC Provider’s workmanship, and dismantling/construction method and procedure employed for all structural/geotechnical works including works manufactured/fabricated off site or at factories or other laboratories and all Structural Works employed to support features like skylight, curtain wall, canopy and cladding;
- Ensure the materials used and workmanship employed in the structural/geotechnical works, including off-site prefabricated works in Office MiC Modules, are complying with the specification, drawings and construction procedure;
- Supervise ground investigation works;
- Check, supervise and inspect site formation work and slope upgrading works;
- Identify defective or substandard materials and workmanship in the structure which do not comply with the specification, drawings and construction procedure and to co-ordinate appropriate tests and remedial works on the defective structural/geotechnical works; To keep records of all identified defective or substandard works and their corresponding remedial works, and report to Structural Designer and Supervisor (SUP) accordingly;
- Communicate with the SUP and site supervisory staffs of the SUP on structural/geotechnical works and to submit monthly report to the SUP on progress and quality of Structural Works;
- Resolve on site difficulties arising from unforeseen circumstances;
- Ensure the Structural Works to progress with minimum disruption, and in cases of action involving variations to design, consult the Designer and report to the SUP or his/her delegates;
- Report to the SUP or his/her delegates any matters of unusual aspect;
- Maintain site records on structural work and to co-ordinate the checking of levels and setting-out of structural/geotechnical works;
- Closely monitor the records of all types of monitoring stations, such as settlement, tilting, horizontal movement and vibration. Report to Structural Designer and SUP immediately if any alarm level being exceeded;
- Monitor the progress and to produce timely information in advance of construction to avoid delay;
- Co-ordinate builder's works requirements in connection with building services and deal with the consequential changes to structural design and to produce sketch plans and working drawings;
- Check, supervise and inspect all Temporary Works and false Works as required in this contract;
- Attend regular and ad hoc meetings;
- Assist the SUP or his delegates in the investigation and to prepare report on the acceptance or otherwise the use of materials;
- Participate the Quality Plan that is submitted by the Contractor to substantiate the fulfilment of Enhanced Quality Supervision and Assurance Plan for foundation works, for site supervision and inspection;
- Follow the Inspection, Test and Approval Plan (ITAP) for site supervision and inspection works;
- Carry out the site supervision and management functions under the Registered Structural Engineers/*Registered Geotechnical Engineers stream as outlined in the “Code of Practice for Site Supervision” and “Technical Memorandum for Supervision Plans” issued by the Buildings Department;
- Participate in the weekly safety walk by the site staff of at least a professional grade;
- Carry out spot checking of high risk construction activities by the site staff of at least a professional grade;
- Carry out daily review with the Contractor of all high risk activities by the site staff of at least a professional grade; and
- Undertake any other duties in connection with site construction activities.
- Carry out site supervision of Structural Works, including off-site prefabricated works in Office MiC Modules.
Requirements
Degree holder in civil or structural engineering with minimum 2 years relevant working experience.
