Applications are invited for appointment as Research AssistantProfessor in the HKU Research Hub of Population Studies (thePopulation Hub), Faculty of Social Sciences(Ref.:536109), to commence as soon as possible, on a two-yearfixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject tosatisfactory performance and funding availability.
This position will immerse the appointees in both academic researchand teaching in the multi-disciplinary team of the HKU Research Hubof Population Studies ( https://www.socsc.hku.hk/rhps/ ) within the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Involve in on-going research projects of the PopulationHub
- Draft proposals, reports, and presentations relevant to theprojects
- Perform advanced quantitative data analysis
- Publish high-quality academic papers in peer-reviewedjournals
- Mentor junior research staff
- Teach one undergraduate or taught postgraduate course per year,if required; and
- Support and perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- A Ph.D. degree in the Social Sciences, Sociology, Demography,Statistics, Public Health, Social Work, or a relevantdiscipline
- A strong quantitative background and extensive experience inmanaging and analysing large and complex datasets; expertise inComputational Social Science and proficiency in longitudinalanalyses, multilevel modelling, data visualisation, andstate-of-the-art statistical models would be an advantage
- The ability to develop a strong body of high-qualitypublications in scholarly journals with global impact
- The ability to multitask and work under tight schedules to meetproject deadlines
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively as partof a team
- A strong commitment to teaching and training activities in thePopulation Hub and the Faculty
- A strong sense of self-motivation, responsibility, and workethics
- Good analytical, communication, organizational, andproblem-solving skills
