Manulife Hong Kong is seeking a Manager/Assistant Manager, Trade Operations to lead trade management, settlement, reconciliation and related post-trade activities across multiple fund types.

The role requires 8+ years in investment operations, with 5+ years in a Middle Office context, and strong knowledge of risk, regulatory requirements and market practices. Hybrid work arrangement offered in Hong Kong.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business with 8+ years in investment operations, 5+ years in Middle Office.
  • Experience in asset management with policies for trade management, pricing, corporate actions and fund ops.
  • Experience overseeing shared service ops and external providers (fund administrators, custodians).
  • Familiar with global asset classes: equities, fixed income, FX, repo, funds.
  • Strong understanding of operational risk, audit and regulatory requirements in asset management.
  • Proficient in MS Office and business systems (Aladdin, Bloomberg, DTCC CTM, ALERT).
  • Experience leading system implementations, market changes and transformation projects.
  • Excellent communication in Cantonese, English and Mandarin; able to influence stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee post-trade processing and resolve exceptions across trade lifecycle.
  • Monitor corporate actions and coordinate with business units/custodian.
  • Coordinate broker onboarding, SSI setup and trading connectivity for new launches.
  • Develop procedures and controls for high-quality front-office support.
  • Collaborate with regional teams to standardize best practices across Asia and globally.
  • Provide training to offshore support teams and oversee outsourced activities.
  • Drive process reengineering, automation and data quality improvement.
  • Identify, escalate and remediate operational risks and audit findings.
  • Support MIS reporting, due diligence and audits on trade management.
  • Manage relationships with fund managers, trading desks, custodians, brokers and auditors.
  • Collaborate with Front Office, Product, Client Portfolio Management and Risk teams.
  • Support system implementation, testing and post-production stabilization.

Job description

The Manager/ Assistant Manager, Trade Operations will be one of the core team members of Investment Operations team providing subject matter expertise and support to our daily trade management processes.


Position Responsibilities


  • Oversight of trade management and support, settlement, reconciliation, corporate actions, pricing and valuations across retail fund, pension fund, institutional mandate and general accounts

  • Oversee post-trade processing activities and ensure timely escalation and resolution of exceptions across the trade lifecycle

  • Monitor corporate action & corporate event in a timely manner and follow-up with business units/custodian when required

  • Coordinate broker onboarding, SSI setup, trading connectivity and operational readiness for new fund launches

  • Develop and maintain procedures and controls within investment operations to ensure consistent high-quality services and support to the front office, clients, and other business units

  • Work with regional and country operations teams to promote best practices and standardization across the Asia region and globally where applicable

  • Assist in providing training or knowledge sharing for offshore support team to support our daily operations and oversee outsourced activities and service providers

  • Drive process reengineering, automation, data quality enhancement and operational risk reduction initiatives

  • Ensure operational risks, controls, incidents and audit findings are appropriately identified, escalated, documented and remediated

  • Support MIS reporting, due diligence review, internal or external audit on trade management functions whenever it is necessary

  • Manage the relationship with fund managers, trading desks, custodian banks, brokers, auditors, and internal/external counterparties to monitor the quality of services and ensure market standard practices are in place

  • Collaborate with peers and various key stakeholders including but not limited to regional and country investment operations teams, Front Office, Product, Client Portfolio Management, Client Advisory, Institutional Sales, Risk and Compliance teams

  • Support system implementation, enhancement, workflow optimization, testing, and post-production stabilization activities across Asia markets. Undertake ad hoc assignments or special business projects as assigned


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business with 8+ years’ experience across investment operations; with at least 5 years’ direct experience working in a Middle Office Operations environment

  • Experience gained in asset manager with knowledge of Middle Office/Investment Operations’ policies and procedures, including but not limited to trade management oversight, trade support for global trading, corporate actions, pricing & valuations, and fund operations

  • Experience with oversight of shared service operations and external providers such as fund administrators and custodians

  • Familiar with global asset classes, including equities, fixed income, FX, Repo, Fund of Fund etc.

  • Strong understanding of operational risk, audit and regulatory requirements within an asset management environment

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (word, excel, power point) and Business systems (Aladdin, Bloomberg, DTCC CTM & ALERT) experience is required

  • Experience managing system implementation, market changes and strategic transformation projects

  • Excellent communication skills in Cantonese / English / Mandarin

  • Ability to understand, negotiate and influence business stakeholders

  • Encourage and drive changes within a highly dynamic, fluid environment

  • Comfortable in challenging traditional processes to strive for efficiencies

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to research issues where the resolution is not readily apparent

  • Public Holiday Support is required whenever it’s necessary

  • Good team player with can-do attitude and the ability to build relationships across multiple levels of the organization

  • Knowledge of cash management and fund accounting with understanding of downstream impact to portfolios valuations in both internal and external systems will be a plus
