Job summary

NLS Executive Search is assisting a global investment management firm in hiring an Algo Developer in Hong Kong to design and develop high-performance trading algorithms and related execution systems. You will build, optimize, and maintain low-latency Java platforms for order lifecycle, execution workflows, and trade capture.

The role emphasizes real-time decisioning, event-driven processing, and integration with market data sources.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional software development experience in core Java.
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and performance optimization.
• Experience building low-latency or high-throughput systems.
• Solid knowledge of concurrency/multithreading, and event-driven or reactive programming patterns.
• Experience integrating with market data and trading/execution systems
• Proficiency with Linux and debugging production issues.
• Strong engineering practices: unit/integration testing, code reviews, Git-based development, and CI/CD exposure.
• Prior experience in algorithmic trading, electronic trading, or capital markets technology highly preferred.
• Knowledge of FIX or other order management protocols.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain their algorithmic trading platform using Java.
• Build and optimize backend components that support order lifecycle management, execution workflows, and trade capture.
• Implement real-time decisioning and event-driven processing for market and portfolio signals.
• Integrate with internal/external trading and market data systems (APIs, feeds, messaging where applicable).
• Ensure system reliability with robust testing, monitoring, and incident support.
• Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and iterative delivery with quant/research and trading operations teams.
• Improve performance and throughput (latency, resource usage) while maintaining code quality.
• Create/maintain technical documentation and operational runbooks for systems under your ownership.
