Job summary

Happy Life Education Foundation Limited seeks a Head of Secondary Humanities to lead the faculty across History, Geography, Global Perspectives, Economics and related subjects in Kowloon Bay, HK. You will set the vision, design the annual plan, and ensure high standards of teaching and assessment.

You will supervise timetables, appraise staff, promote collaboration, and drive continuous curriculum improvement aligned with international curricula and school philosophy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject required; a Master's in Humanities, Education, or a related field preferred.
• Native or near-native fluency in English (the primary language of instruction and leadership), with good spoken and written Mandarin Chinese preferred for local communication.
• Relevant teaching certification (e.g. PGCE / QTS / recognized teacher qualification) required; experience with international curricula (IGCSE / A-Level / IB) preferred.
• 5+ years of secondary teaching experience, including at least 2 years in a subject-leadership or Head of Department role.

Responsibilities

• Lead the secondary Humanities faculty (History, Geography, Global Perspectives, Economics, and related subjects), setting and implementing the subject vision and annual plan.
• Coordinate teachers' timetables, responsibilities, and professional growth; observe lessons and appraise faculty members' teaching performance.
• Foster a collaborative, reflective faculty culture that promotes resource-sharing and pedagogical inquiry among teachers.
• Lead the design, vertical alignment, and continuous improvement of the Humanities curriculum, ensuring alignment with standards and the school's educational philosophy.
• Promote cross-disciplinary and inquiry-based learning, embedding critical thinking, research skills, and real-world application.
• Monitor the quality of classroom teaching, regularly reviewing pedagogy and student engagement to drive data-informed improvement.
• Oversee assessment policy, examination arrangements, and marking criteria for the faculty, ensuring consistency, fairness, and validity.
• Analyse student achievement data and trends, devising targeted support and enrichment plans to raise overall learning outcomes.
• Monitor preparation for and results of external examinations (e.g. IGCSE, A-Level, IB).
• Maintain close communication with homeroom teachers, other Heads of Department, and the leadership team to coordinate cross-curricular projects and whole-school events.
• Communicate Humanities learning progress, curriculum arrangements, and assessment outcomes with parents as appropriate.
• Participate in the school's evaluation and quality-assurance processes as a reflective leader, continuously raising faculty effectiveness.
• Actively engage in and lead in-school or external training, curriculum workshops, and professional learning communities.
• Uphold the school's child safeguarding policy and report any related concerns to the appropriate person without delay.
