Job summary

Hong Kong Genome Institute is seeking an Analyst Programmer (Data Management) to support a new data warehouse for genomic data. You will help design, develop, and maintain scalable data storage and processing pipelines in a bilingual environment.

The role requires 4+ years of experience, strong ETL and data modelling skills, plus proficiency in Java or Python. Office location is Hong Kong Science Park, Shatin, with a two‑year contract and attractive remuneration.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• At least 4 years of relevant working experience.
• Strong understanding of data warehouse principles, data modelling, ETL processes.
• Experience with Linux, shell scripting, system monitoring and performance tuning.
• Proficiency in Java or Python.

Responsibilities

• Assist in building a robust, scalable, high‑performance data storage and management system for genomic data.
• Develop and document architecture, data models, data flows, and system interfaces.
• Identify and fix performance bottlenecks in data storage and retrieval.
• Create a scalability plan to handle rapid genomic data growth.
• Prepare docs and perform SDLC testing (unit, SIT, UAT, load, regression).
• Support routine ops to maintain system efficiency and reliability.
• Perform other duties as assigned by senior officers.
