A regional civil engineering / utilities contractor is seeking a Design Engineer to work within the DNO/Energy Sectors, being conversant with the requirements for the design of new and augmented power networks in both the regulated and unregulated markets.
The role is based at our Portsmouth office with great road links and a team of professionals on hand to support and collaborate with.
- Proficient use of SSEN industry standard electrical design.
- Experience in use of CAD software is preferable
- Degree/HNC in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Incorporated Engineer status or actively working towards it.
- Proven experience in the design DNO energy related electrical systems.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
- Having a clear understanding of DNO's HV & LV networks.
- Lead the design and engineering projects from feasibility to commissioning phases.

- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and oversee the work of jointing engineers.
- Engage with clients and stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met.
- Ensure quality assurance, risk management, and adherence to safety standards throughout the project lifecycle.

- Primary Substations - Construction, installation, and commissioning.
- Switchgear, Transformers & Plant - Installation and commissioning.
- Cable Installation & Connections - HV/LV multi-core & power cables, laying, pulling, jointing, and terminating.
- Excellent ability to communicate orally and in writing at all levels in the organisation.
- Able to work under pressure and make important decisions.
- Electrical engineering experience is essential.
- Design experience is ideal.
