Job summary

A healthcare provider is seeking a registered mental health Nurse to provide community-based psychotherapeutic services to children and young people with eating disorders. The post holder will provide specific assessments and psychotherapeutic treatment to children and young people and their families. In addition to employing specialist skills within individual care plans, all team members support and participate within core shared rotas (duty/referral screening, urgent risk assessment and initial assessments) and provide up-to-date outcome data (CORC).

Job responsibilities
  • Provide community‑based psychotherapeutic services to children & young people and their families referred to the YP‑CED team.
  • Work as part of the YP‑CED multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Offer assessment and appropriate interventions to individuals with eating disorders in line with NICE guidance.
  • Provide advice, support and supervision to other health professionals.
  • Act as Care Co‑ordinator for Eating Disorder Service clients where appropriate.
  • Spend the main proportion of time engaged in or related to clinical activity, including sessions, research, supervision, professional and team meetings, teaching or training and continuing professional development (details agreed with the Team Leader).
  • Deliver evidence‑based treatment interventions on a one‑to‑one, family and group basis to promote recovery from eating disorders for children and young people with an ED and their families/carers.
  • Collaborate with the multi‑disciplinary team to develop pathways and share them with other team members and wider mental health services (BEEU).
  • Establish and maintain links with BEEU, General Practice, schools, colleges, paediatric services, other healthcare settings and non‑healthcare workers (e.g. sports coaches, dance teachers) to ensure seamless short, medium and long‑term care planning for each service user.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Lead regarding overall service provision and caseload requirements.
  • Manage a caseload of clients with Eating Disorders and possible comorbidities within the community.
  • Lead clinical case meetings, Safeguarding, TAC, Early Help and CPA reviews to address the needs of children and young people with an Eating Disorder and their families/carers, supporting their recovery.
Person specification – Qualifications
  • Essential: Registered mental health Nurse or Allied Health Professional on NMC or HCPC Register.
  • BSc degree in nursing or relevant professional degree (or equivalent).
  • Desirable: Qualification in psychological intervention, including CBT, CBTe, or Family‑based treatment.
Person specification – Experience
  • Essential: Experience working with CYP suffering from Eating Disorders and comorbid illness.
  • Experience of specialist psychotherapeutic work with children and young people.
  • Desirable: Specialist experience working with children and young people with Eating Disorders, either inpatient or community.
