Clinical Site Nurse Practitioner

The closing date is 28 November 2025

  • Provide senior nursing and managerial support and advice for all areas in the hospital. Out of hours acting as the duty Matron.
  • Take the lead role in coordinating the Hospital at Night, working with the junior medical staff, ward and departmental nursing staff to provide a service to the patients, utilising expanded knowledge and skills, including advanced patient assessment
  • Participate in and co-ordinate the hospital sites' emergency response including first line management of Major and Serious Untoward Incidents as required.
  • Responsible for the timely and appropriate clinical placement of patients by planning and managing the effective utilisation of in- patient beds providing an efficient and effective service for both emergency and elective admission.
  • Support staff to ensure that patients receive timely assessment, referral and transfer from the A&E department, Clinical assessment Unit and SDEC/OPAU in order that clinical care can be optimum and the national priorities
  • Troubleshoot during the patient pathway to assist the clinical areas to improve the patient experience; whilst ensuring the Trusts A&E 4-hr Operational Standard & Capacity Management Plan are adhered to at all times
  • Provide Bronze response and support to the Trust towards escalation of all clinical and non-clinical Major and Serious incidents in and out of hours.
Main duties of the job

This is an overview of the main duties of Clinical Site Nurse Practitioner.

  • Provide senior nursing support and clinical advice throughout the Trust, particularly during out-of-hours shifts.
  • Undertake advanced clinical interventions and support staff in clinical areas, ensuring safe and effective nursing practices.
  • Contribute to corporate nursing agendas and maintain competence in basic and advanced clinical skills.
  • Manage site operations, including emergency/incident response coordination and liaison with varied teams and departments.
  • Promote collaborative working relationships with multidisciplinary teams and participate in hospital improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee staff redeployment and performance management, ensuring adherence to standards and protocols.
  • Facilitate effective communication between clinical site nurse practitioners and clinical site managers.
  • Lead capacity management, including daily CAT meetings, patient flow monitoring and patient pathway optimisation.
  • Participate in staff education and training programs, maintaining a evidence-based practices and person-centred care.
  • Engage in clinical governance activities, including quality and risk management, infection control, and incident investigation and resolution.

Clinical & Professional Responsibilities:

  • Provide senior nursing support and professional advice across the Trust.
  • Offer first point of contact for ward staff during out-of-hours.
  • Undertake advanced clinical interventions and life support skills.
  • Liaise closely with the Outreach Team for early identification and prevention of deterioration.
  • Perform clinical procedures and supervise ward staff in executing them.
  • Contribute to corporate nursing agendas and maintain clinical competence.
  • Support out-of-hours Medical Team i.e, cannulation/venepuncture, Verification of Expected Death.

Management Responsibilities:

  • Manage site operations and coordinate emergency responses.
  • Provide senior managerial support and advice to all areas.
  • Coordinate the Trust's response to various emergencies/incidents.
  • Liaise with on-call teams and maintain communication standards.
  • Facilitate staff redeployment and supervise bank/agency staff.
  • Ensure designated shift leaders adhere to standards especially during out of hours.
  • Act as an effective role model and demonstrate leadership skills.
  • Collaborate with clinical site nurse practitioners for operational efficiency.

Capacity Management:

  • Lead and support daily capacity meetings for effective bed utilisation.
  • Ensure patient movement adheres to speciality ward configurations.
  • Facilitate patient transfers and discharge processes.
  • Support timely patient assessment and referrals.
  • Monitor trigger factors for A&E and capacity escalation plans.
  • Collect and analyse capacity data for audit purposes.

Education Responsibilities:

  • Participate in staff teaching and create positive learning environments.
  • Contribute to education and training programs for nursing and medical staff.
  • Maintain a evidence-based approach to practice and promote person-centred care.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • NMC Registered Adult Nurse
  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent, in a health related area of practice or equivalent knowledge, skills and competency gained through substantial experience in a shift leader position.
  • Mentorship or Practice Supervisor/Practice Assessor training
  • MSc in Nurse Practitioner Course or working towards it.
Experience
  • Significant post registration experience, working in an acute setting (A&E, Acute areas, Critical Care)
