Overview

Master Roaster, Based Basildon

At Costa Coffee, we’re on a mission to reimagine coffee experiences across the globe. From bustling cities to local communities, we’re creating meaningful coffee moments, powered by innovation and driven by purpose.

As a proud part of the Coca-Cola system and working hand in hand with our pioneering partners, we’re in over 50 countries and counting. Whether it's served in-store, from a machine, at home, or on the go, every cup is thoughtfully crafted by our passionate teams who put heart into every moment.

Our teams truly make a difference. Whether it's pioneering new tech for the perfect pour, launching award-winning campaigns, developing exciting new menu items, or supporting our people to grow – together, we stir up success.

Join us as a Master Roaster at our cutting-edge Basildon Roastery – where craftsmanship meets innovation. We're looking for a passionate coffee expert to lead production with precision, uphold the highest quality standards, and help shape the future of our roasting operations. If you live and breathe coffee and are excited by the challenge of scaling excellence in a world-class facility, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact.

With inspiring experiences, development programmes, and our apprenticeship scheme, your career can grow far beyond the day-to-day.

What you’ll do

Being a Master Roaster is about so much more than bringing our coffee to the world. It’s your chance to stir up real success - which means you’ll be :

  • Deliver Exceptional Coffee Quality. Roast coffee to precise standards using advanced Probat systems, ensuring every batch meets customer expectations and global food safety standards.
  • Lead Safe, High-Performance Production. Manage daily roasting operations to meet volume and quality targets while maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient working environment.
  • Support new product development through recipe creation, blend formulation, and trials—translating innovation into scalable production.
  • Operate and maintain production documentation and systems (Probat Plant Excellence, NAV 2016), ensuring traceability, order management, and stock accuracy.
  • Share expertise to upskill roastery colleagues, ensuring consistent roasting quality and operational excellence across shifts.
  • Work closely with Production, Packing, and Warehouse teams to ensure seamless coordination of green coffee, roasting schedules, and output.
Who you are

It’s your unique ingredients we’re interested in :

  • Strong Knowledge of Coffee Production & Roasting. Proven experience in coffee roasting processes, with working knowledge of roaster software, DMS systems, and sensory analysis (certifications a plus).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and manage teams in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Understanding of productivity metrics, OEE, and continuous improvement within a food production setting.
  • Solid grasp of food hygiene, health & safety, and global food safety standards (e.g., BRC).
  • Comfortable using PC applications (Excel, Word, Email), with experience in Navision (2009 / 2016) and basic understanding of electrical / mechanical systems.
  • Effective communicator with strong organisational skills, able to plan production and collaborate across functions to meet targets.
So, why Costa?

We didn’t become a global coffee brand by sitting back. When you work here, you join a community that values passion, progression, and integrity—with some brilliant perks to sweeten the deal. We work in a hybrid environment, giving us the flexibility to balance life while still spending meaningful time together and building strong connections :

  • Own a piece of Costa’s success by becoming a share owner in Coca-Cola with our Share Investment Plan (SIP)
  • An annual discretionary bonus scheme, based on business results and individual contribution.
  • A smart pension that saves you money on tax and national insurance, and matches your contributions up to 10%
  • The Costa Financial Support Fund, supporting team members who find themselves in unexpected financial pressure
  • 50% discount in all Costa-owned stores, and 25% off in other participating stores
  • Private medical cover thanks to our Private Healthcare scheme
  • And that’s not all. Explore even more of our perks here : https://bit.ly/costaperks

Location – Permanently based at Basildon Roastery. Mon to Fri working 06:30am to 15:30pm, 08:00am to 17:00pm and 10:00am to 19:00pm based on rotated shift & business requirement.
