Job description
About the role

This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.

About the role

At Balfour Beatty, we are proud to be part of the delivery team for HS2, the UK's flagship high-speed rail programme, and a once-in-a-generation project shaping the future of sustainable transport and construction innovation.

We are currently seeking an experienced Construction Manager to join our Regional Buildings team, supporting the delivery of five reinforced concrete buildings that will house critical mechanical & Electrical (MEP) plant infrastructure along the route. These highly engineered buildings form an integral part of HS2\'s operational systems and represent a unique blend of heavy civil engineering and complex building construction.

This role offers an exceptional opportunity for a motivated and technically strong professional with a background in reinforced concrete structures, commercial buildings, or RC frame delivery to play a leading part in one of the UK's most ambitious engineering projects.

What you\'ll be doing

As a Construction Manager you will:

  • Managing day-to-day site operations for reinforced concrete and associated building works.
  • Leading and motivating construction teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to meet programme and quality milestones.
  • Coordinating with MEP and design teams to ensure interfaces are understood and planned effectively.
  • Overseeing temporary works, formwork, rebar, concrete pours, and finishing activities.
  • Driving a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement across all site activities.
  • Managing materials, logistics, plant, and sequencing to maintain programme momentum.
  • Monitoring cost and progress, reporting accurately to senior management.
  • Ensuring compliance with Balfour Beatty\'s environmental and sustainability commitments.
  • Supporting junior engineers and supervisors, helping to build capability within the team.

Who we\'re looking for

You will have the following:

  • Proven background managing reinforced concrete or structural frame projects - ideally within the building or infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong understanding of RC construction methods, reinforcement detailing, and formwork systems.
  • Experience managing MEP interface or integration works advantageous.
  • Excellent leadership, coordination, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrable commitment to health, safety, and environmental best practice.
  • Strong commercial and planning awareness.
  • Relevant qualification in construction or civil engineering (HNC, HND, or Degree).
  • SMSTS and CSCS certification.

Why work for us

Day in, day out, our teams deliver some of the UK's most ambitious, exciting and meaningful projects; developing, building and maintaining the vital infrastructure that supports national economies and strengthens communities.

Why join us?

As if contributing to and supporting work that makes life better for millions wasn\'t rewarding enough, we offer a full range of benefits too. You\'ll have the freedom to shape the package that\'s right for you and your life. Here are some of our key benefits:

  • Smart working, giving you more flexibility such as staggered start and finish times, with up to 40% remote working, where roles allow.
  • 25 days paid annual leave (pro rata)
  • Family friendly policies which include 28 weeks full pay for maternity/adoption leave and four weeks full pay for paternity/partners leave
  • Pension, share incentive plan, volunteering leave, recognition schemes and much more...

About us

Operating across England and Wales, our buildings teams create places where people live, are cared for, work, learn, meet and have fun, with a focus on the aviation, health, defence, education and development sectors.
