Job description
Overview

JSS Rail has been appointed on the Eastern Region Minor Emerging Works and Minor Projects up to £600k framework. The role of Site Supervisor is to assist in the delivery of these works, ideally based in north-central England. Projects typically range between £30k and £600k for Network Rail.

The role reports to the Contracts Manager and/or Project Manager and is responsible for the on-site programme in respect of delivery, workmanship and safety, ensuring adequate labour, plant, materials, and sub-contractor resources are available to meet contract requirements. The role involves supporting pre-construction with the Contracts Management team in producing and collating H&S paperwork for specific projects, including Task Briefs, Work Package Plans and Construction Phase Plans.

Responsibilities
  • Liaise with the customer, their representatives, and other stakeholders on site operational issues.
  • Act as the daily site contact, coordinate and inform local site stakeholders through the project life cycle on site.
  • Assist and coordinate with the Project Manager in completing Task Briefs, WPP/CPP and other H&S paperwork as required.
  • Understand subcontractors' RAMS and ITPs to ensure quality standards are achieved.
  • Active involvement in HSEQS management on projects and drive continuous improvement in line with the Zero philosophy.
  • Plan weekly and daily activities with the Project Manager. Attend and chair daily coordination meetings and distribute action points.
  • Set up a Safe & Secure work site in accordance with Sisk processes and procedures. Coordinate trades, supervise and manage site subcontractors and works team activity.
  • Interpret drawings and specifications and communicate directions to site personnel, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Requisition materials and maintain site security, hoardings and signboards to present a tidy and professional appearance.
  • Inspect subcontractors’ work and sign off when at an acceptable standard.
  • Undertake snagging and arrange rectification of defects; manage project lifecycle snagging.
  • Manage site logistics and waste removal; ensure waste materials go into appropriate waste skips.
  • Complete site inductions, attend site meetings and action points identified.
  • Check toolbox talks are carried out by subcontractors; request outstanding information and confirm verbal instructions.
  • Monitor milestones and report weekly to the Contracts Manager/Project Manager; escalate issues promptly.
  • Update internal records weekly for client reporting; maintain daily diary including progress, safety issues, weather and labour/plant/material shortfalls.
  • Management of the contract and undertaking other reasonable tasks as required by the CM/PM.
  • Work alongside the Project Manager to ensure project progress aligns with approvals and permits (e.g., hot works, working at height, excavation).
Qualifications
  • Proven track record of at least 5 years within a construction management environment with a National/Regional Contractor, preferably with railway experience, with strong HSEQS standards.
  • Experience across different construction types with related technical and logistical delivery challenges.
  • Experience managing construction from a quality, programme, risk and HSE/HAS perspective; good understanding of project logistics and programme to completion.
  • Working knowledge of project specification; organised with good time management and proactive planning.
  • Ability to lead, develop and manage teams and sub-contractors; strong relationship management and communication skills.
  • Computer literate.
