Hourly Rate: £12.60 per hour
Hours Offered: 6 hours and 40 miles per week (Term-Time)
18 hrs and 60 miles per week (School Holidays)
Work Pattern: To be agreed at interview
Reporting to: The Direct Payments Recipient (The Direct Payments Recipient is the employer and they hold all the employer’s responsibilities associated with this role. Pembrokeshire County Council supports them to fulfil their employer obligations).

Introduction

A family in Pembrokeshire is looking to employ a personal assistant to support them with their sons care needs. This young person has been diagnosed with severe Epilepsy; as such, the personal assistant would need to have experience in this area or prepared to undergo training. This young person has limited mobility and therefore has use of a wheelchair. This young person enjoys swimming and day trips to Folly Farm, library visits and anything outdoors. As this young man is non-verbal, an understanding of Autism is a requirement and the ability to sign would be advantageous, but not essential.

Responsibilities
  • Develop a reliable and trusting relationship with the person.
  • Ensure a structured set of activities are maintained.
  • Support the person to access activities of importance.
  • Access suitable community groups.
  • Develop one on one interactions with the person whilst undertaking outings out of doors and activities, which will include physical activities
  • Communicate with the person’s family and wider support network.
  • Support the employer to develop independent living skills.
  • Provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation with the employer and providing them with social interaction
  • Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during your working hours.
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the employer during your working hours.
  • Be mindful of safeguarding issues, and feedback any concerns to the relevant authority.
  • Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance.
