Job summary

Barnardo's in Wales is seeking a Project Worker 1 to join the Children and Young People’s Substance Use Service (Cyfle Barnardo's Cymru) across Denbighshire and Conwy. You will deliver early help, assess needs and plan programmes, with group and 1:1 work for children and young people up to age 25.

You will collaborate with partners, travel across the locality, and may work evenings/weekends by arrangement. Welsh language ability is preferred; driving is essential due to rural areas.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering face‑to‑face advice on substance use with children and young people.
• Experience working within a multi‑agency partnership.
• Knowledge of issues facing young people where alcohol/substances are an issue.
• Knowledge of drug/alcohol use, effects and harm reduction advice.
• Understanding safeguarding procedures and legislation.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the public and professionals.
• Flexibility to work evenings or weekends by arrangement.
• Ability to travel throughout the locality to meet post requirements.
• Welsh language ability (D) is required.

Responsibilities

• Offer support, advice and assistance to children, young people and families on a 1:1 and group basis.
• Deliver group work interventions to help young people build skills per their support plan.
• Deliver targeted prevention and brief intervention programmes to boost wellbeing.
• Identify community activities accessible to children and young people.
• Access community resources and work with professionals to maximise options.
• Act as a single point of access for schools and pupil referral units.
• Assist in risk assessment and develop plans to meet identified needs.
• Coach professionals in developing sample drug/alcohol session plans and raise awareness of misuse.
• Help young people identify goals and achieve positive changes.
