Job summary

Northamptonshire Children’s Trust is seeking a Youth Justice Team Worker on a 12-month maternity cover, based at Billing Road with countywide travel. You will assess and support children and young people, working in the community, offices and homes, building strong relationships and delivering tailored interventions.

Collaborating with partners, you will engage with youth in custodial settings and represent the service in court to safeguard families and communities.

Qualifications

• Experience undertaking complex assessments with children and young people.
• Ability to write reports and design/delivering interventions.
• Experience in Youth Offending Service is advantageous.
• Professional qualification or degree in Youth Work, Nursing, Probation, Social Work, Teaching or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Motivate children, young people, their parents and carers to engage effectively.
• Work in the community, in offices, community venues, including homes.
• Engage with young people in custodial establishments.
• Build and sustain professional relationships to maximise impact.

About the role

Northamptonshire Youth Justice Service (NYJS) has an exciting opportunity for a Youth Justice Team Worker to join our service on a 12-month maternity cover contract working as part of the West team.

The Youth Justice Service isa highly successfulstatutory partnership which isrequiredto reduce the offending of children and young people; reduce the incidence of harm to potential victims; repair existing harm where possible and safeguard the welfare of the children and young people with whom we work.

You will be based out of our Billing Road office but will be required to travel effectively across the county

What will you be doing?

You will understand that the ability to motivate children & young people, their parents & carers, and other workers are all critical to giving you the opportunity to put your knowledge and experience to good use.

Working in the community, you will see young people both in our offices and in various community venues, including their own homes.

You will also be expected to engage with young people whilst in custodial establishments.

Whatever the environment, you will be skilled at building and sustaining professional relationships swiftly to maximise the impact of your work.

You will be expected to offer a range of approaches to your work, which are responsive to the needs of the individuals.

The YJS client group can live chaotic lifestyles, and your persistence and determination will be important to your ability to engage and re-engage with those who need you most.

You will work in partnership with colleagues inside and outside the YJS. This will include representing our service in Court, presenting professionally to magistrates and judges.

About you

You will be experienced in undertaking complex assessments with children and young people, writing reports and designing/delivering interventions and, if you have experience of working in a Youth Offending Service, so much the better.

You will be a confident and credible practitioner with a passion for children and young people, their parents/carers, victims of crime, professional colleagues and in formal environments such as the Youth and Crown Court.

A professional qualification or relevant degree with relevant experience is essential for this role, so you may have a nationally recognised qualification as a Youth Worker, Nurse, Probation Officer, Social Worker, Teacher or equivalent.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore subject to an enhanced DBS certificate. It is also a regulated activity and will be subject to a Barred List check
