Job summary

Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) is seeking a compassionate Support Worker for Branching Out Newark. You will help 16–21 year olds build confidence, life skills and independence to secure permanent accommodation across Newark and Ollerton.

You will work on a rota, with shifts 07:00-14:30 and 14:30-22:00, and may travel between sites. A driving licence and access to a vehicle are highly desirable as part of your role.

Qualifications

• Must hold Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker qualification or be actively working towards it.
• Willingness to complete the apprenticeship route and meet UK eligibility requirements.
• Experience supporting young people and maintaining professional boundaries is desirable.

Job description

We're looking for a compassionate and motivated Support Worker to join our friendly and supportive team at Branching Out Newark. You'll work alongside young people aged 16-21, helping them develop the confidence, skills and independence they need to thrive and move on to permanent accommodation.

Role overview

As a Support Worker, you'll play a vital role in supporting young people living semi-independently. You'll help them achieve their goals, develop essential life skills and access opportunities that enable them to live independently and make meaningful use of their time. You'll have the opportunity to build trusted relationships while empowering young people to make informed choices about their future.

Key responsibilities

In this role every day can be different, but parts of your day may look like:

• Supporting young people to develop independence, confidence and life skills.
• Developing, implementing and reviewing individual support plans and risk assessments.
• Helping young people access education, employment and training opportunities.
• Supporting with daily living activities, including budgeting, managing bills, cooking and household responsibilities.
• Encouraging participation in leisure activities and engagement within the local community.
• Working collaboratively with external agencies and support networks.
• Advocating for young people and work closely with external agencies and professionals.
• Maintaining accurate records and contribute to safeguarding responsibilities.
• Promoting a safe, positive and supportive environment for young people and colleagues.

Working pattern

We have two 37-hour and one 22.5-hour roles available; working on a rota basis across seven days, including weekends and bank holidays; so, flexibility is key. Typical shifts are 07:00-14:30 and 14:30-22:00. There will be the option to pick up nights on occasion, for which our night enhancement rates will apply.

This role is based across our Newark services, including Newark and Ollerton locations, so you must be willing and able to work and travel to both of our locations in Newark, including cluster properties across Newark, Ollerton and Balderton.

A driving licence and access to a vehicle would be highly desirable.

We're looking for someone who is positive, resilient and passionate about supporting young people. Change can sometimes be hard so you could face behaviours that challenge, your patient and assertive nature will make sure this doesn’t escape and make sure there are positive outcomes consistently.

You'll have experience of working with young people, either professionally or in a voluntary capacity, alongside an understanding of the challenges they may face. You'll be a confident communicator who can build positive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.

You'll also have:

Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker Qualification

You must either already hold a Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker qualification, be actively working towards it, or be willing and able to achieve it as part of your employment.

If you need to complete the qualification through an apprenticeship, you must meet the apprenticeship eligibility requirements, including having lived in the UK for at least 3 years prior to starting, having sufficient right to work in the UK for the duration of the programme, and not currently being enrolled on another course of study.
