Job summary

Doran Consulting in Belfast invites applications for Year-Out Placements in Civil or Structural Engineering, starting summer 2027. This placement gives you practical experience alongside experienced engineers on diverse UK and Ireland projects.

As a student, you will assist our Civil and Structural teams on infrastructure, bridges and water-related projects, developing your skills in Civil 3D, BIM and Revit within a multidisciplinary consultancy.

Qualifications

• Currently studying towards a BEng or MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering with an anticipated return to university after the placement.
• Placement offers exposure to Civil and Structural projects across the UK and Ireland.
• Gain experience in structural modelling and the use of BIM and Revit.

Responsibilities

• Assist Structural Engineers with the design of structures in reinforced concrete, structural steel, structural timber and masonry.
• Gain experience in structural modelling and the use of BIM and Revit.
• Assist Civil Engineers on a wide range of civil engineering projects, with potential involvement in infrastructure, water and wastewater, traffic, heavy civil engineering and bridge engineering.

We are inviting applications from promising and enthusiastic BEng / MEng Civil and Structural Engineering undergraduates currently in their 2nd or 3rd year of study for Year Out Placements within our Civil or Structural Engineering teams, commencing summer 2027.

We are inviting applications from promising and enthusiastic BEng / MEng Civil and Structural Engineering undergraduates currently in their 2nd or 3rd year of study for Year Out Placements within our Civil or Structural Engineering teams, commencing summer 2027.

As a busy and dynamic Civil and Structural Engineering Consultancy, we offer placement students the opportunity to gain practical experience working alongside experienced engineers on a wide range of projects across the UK and Ireland.

Placement students joining our Structural Team will have the opportunity to assist our Structural Engineers with the design of a wide range of structures in reinforced concrete, structural steel, structural timber and masonry. You will gain experience working on a variety of projects, with opportunities to develop your skills in structural modelling and the use of BIM and Revit.

Placement students joining our Civil Team will have the opportunity to assist our Civil Engineers on a wide range of civil engineering projects, with potential involvement in areas including infrastructure, water and wastewater, traffic, heavy civil engineering and bridge engineering. You will gain experience in civil engineering design and modelling using Civil 3D and other related software.

A Year Out Placement with us will provide an opportunity to gain valuable practical experience within a professional engineering consultancy, develop your technical skills and gain an understanding of how projects are delivered in a multidisciplinary environment.

We provide support and guidance throughout the placement, with students working alongside experienced engineers and gaining exposure to a range of project work.

Applicants should be currently studying towards a BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering, with an anticipated return to university following completion of the placement.
